Speaking of Putin, why am I not surprised that Berlusconi turned out to be his best friend in Europe?

Spring may be there but it's snowing outside in western PA. Chill is down around 20 F. However one of the kilts went to the dry cleaner today. We are getting closer. Groundhog may have been right this year.

Don't blame the rodent. It's not his (or her, it's hard to tell) fault.

Perhaps most people haven't noticed but the British peninsular ( I suppose English islands was a bit of an error and British would have been better since Northern Ireland, Scotland Wales are included, and even relatively recently it was joined to Europe ) is completely surrounded by water which I suppose technically means that it is an island. A big island maybe but still an island. And as for that stuff you are being plagued with - snow, we haven't had a flake of it this year! :D

Last time I checked, Spring doesn't start until March 21. As for the groundhog, its just a cruel joke. On February 2, there are always six more weeks of winter.

Ah but today, the temperature is supposed to get up to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Yesterday, during a ride in the country, I counted no less than 5 deer out in the fields during daylight hours.

After more than 30 days of below zero degrees F. these are welcome signs that Spring is starting to make its appearance.

Last time I was in Llanfairpwllgwyngilgogerychwyrndrobwillllantisiliogogogoch they weren't sounding very English! :? Happily the A55 now bypasses the place.

Very true - I did work in N Wales when the Dinorwig Power station was being constructed and visited Llanfairpwllgwyngilgogerychwyrndrobwill-llantisiliogogogoch. I recall that the train station was just about the same length as the place name. I recall it means something about two churches ("llan" = church) but can't recall the rest of the meaning. Better Google it:-

Other translations say ".... the fierce whirlpool and the church of St Tysilio of the red cave"

As to the name of that village on Anglesey, I recall reading many years ago that the name meant 'The church of St Mary's in the hollow of a white hazel near to a rapid whirlpool and St Tysilio's church and a red cave' although I stand to be corrected by any Welsh speaking correspondents.

High 84, partly cloudy, 0% chance of precipitation here in Arizona. But in a couple of months you can laugh at our 110°.
