This thread brings to mind a scene from my favorite movie "The Big Lebowski" when "the stranger" (Sam Elliot) asked "the dude" (Jeff Bridges) something to the effect of "Tell me one thing, Dude...why do you have to use so much bad language?" The dude then replied "What the f--- are you talking about, man?"

Traditional profanity has lost its shock value; at this point I very much doubt that continued repetition will restore this. But nevertheless, it still sounds vulgar; it adds nothing but ugliness/foulness to the conversation.
