Pockets on the back of a skirt tend to become filled. These full pocket lumps can lead to poor posture or spinal issues. Most cargo skirts have side pockets that serve to minimize potential medical issues. A purse allows the customary items to be carried on a regular basis without having to load and subsequently unload pockets. The cellular telephone, wallet, GPS and even the concealed firearm can have a comfortable resting place in a segmented purse. The variety of pockets found in denim skirts is truly amazing. Usually denim skirt prices are ten dollars or less. I find that the garment hangs better if pockets are used sparingly if at all. Lumps detract from the lines of the garment. Hairy legs detract from the image presented by the wearer. I prefer to go to the local zoo when I want to see hairy arms, legs and armpits. Just my personal opinion of what men need to do to gain wider acceptance of men wearing skirts as their principal garment of choice. :)

I have a Denim skirt that i purchased at a store, it has pockets but they are kinda small, it looks great though. I agree with you saying they need to be more masculine, so i took a pair of cargo shorts and made them into a skirt. just about three inches above the knee and have worn it in public a few times without any slurred comments about it being a skirt. i wish the western world would open their eyes and see that men also can wear skirts, just as women can wear pants and whatever without ridecule.

I'll certainly second all of the above. Another appliance is another encumberence! My skirts all have good pockets, either as original, or enhanced by me.
Dresses are another thing entirely. Haven't found a good man-able dress with pockets.
Getting some made in (sorry!) denim. The most "male" of materials. With bias cut skirt, side pockets. And wide for good swing. Bodice long sleeve denim shirt style, straight cut, as boilersuit. Flowing in the wind.

This is what I find too. However as we move into my first autumn of skirt wearing, I've found that there's no need to restrict myself to skirts with pockets, as I will always want some sort of jacket on when I go out.

I've always been one for putting my hands in my pockets - I sing in a choir and I've lost count of how many times over the years I have been told off by a conductor for spoiling the look of the choir by putting one hand in my pocket. It just happens without me noticing! (The other one is of course holding the music.) So at first I found pocketless skirts really annoying. But in my drive to find out what skirt styles I like, without breaking the bank, I have been buying cheap skirts on Ebay and that has meant getting quite a few without pockets. So I'm getting used to it pretty quickly. In fact I quite like not having pockets now.

I fairly recently brought a virtually new denim skirt on Ebay for £6.19 including the postage, and overall I'm very pleased with it. Its a size 20 and is fairly loose around my waist, so I suspect that a size 18 in that style (had one been available) would have been ok. However it wasn't easy to determine what the waist measurement in inches of a given size actually is. Anyway that will be easy to solve.

The length also needs shortening to suit my taste. Currently its about 7" below my knee and a bit too long. If it had been say 3" below I might have left it, but as it is I'll probably get it shortened back to knee length.

I find that asking the seller usually works! Works for length and hem measurements too.

It amazes me how few people include actual measurements as a matter of course; just saying size 12 (or whatever) narrows it down to a range of about 6 inches, which they must know from their own experience. Maybe sellers assume that you know which makes are large for their nominal size and which are small, but you'd think they would realise that the actual measurement would still be useful information.

I don't care if a dress is man-able.
I have a sun dress with pockets, and if I put anything in them, the dress simply does not hang right!

I have denim skirts with pockets and since that garment is hung from the waist, there are no problems using the pockets.

Pockets, always pockets, skirt, dress or kilt, pockets are not the "Holy Grail". That's what jackets and bags of any description are for.
John, so good to hear from you again, I was thinking about you the other day. I trust you are well sir.
Steve.

Try finding a safari dress; a proper one one rather than a fashion one.
They seem to be styled as long shirt dresses with plenty of pockets and a more masculine, practical, aspect to them, but they do cost...

That sounds like a good idea. I do like minimum encumberance, so will have wallet etc safely stashed in pockets. The medium-weight denim dress I am having made should support such in the side pockets OK I reckon, but not heavy cargo, better carried in a shopping bag.
