Knees are Ugly!

Discussion of fashion elements and looks that are traditionally considered somewhat "femme" but are presented in a masculine context. This is NOT about transvestism or crossdressing.

I hope everyone here realises that I have ABSOLUTELY NO FASHION SENSE! There, I said it and I admit to it!
I had an interest in fashions growing up. But I also thought that male fashions would soften and become more feminine, once men realiesed how good the clothing being worn by women back then felt. The soft ness and lightness of most of their clothes along with the silky feel of so many things women wore. But, over the years, men's fashions varied little from the styles offered then. And women's fashions turned manly in every way possible until there is or soon will be, true unisexual clothes, everyone dresses like men. Business men and cowboys, I guess.
So when I offer an oppinion about fashion and style MAKE no mistake, I haven't a clue about what fasion is really about.
I lost all interest when I realised, ove the years, that I wasn't going to be given carte-blanche to wear the clothes I wanted too. The things women wore in the 1950s. And women have rejected those as everyday clothes. They must have their reasons. Which of course, I don't understand at all.
But that still means that I think knees are ugly, unless they are bent, as when a woman sits down and gracefully crosses her legs, one knee beautifully draped over another.
But standing up the skin sags and knees look ugly. And no one in their right mind would want to see my knees standing up. Even I don't.
So everyone can read this and have a good laugh at my expense. It's okay! That what I'm here for.
OMG LOL

That means that you have pretty much the same level of sense that I have. ;)

Over time I've managed to learn how to work with colours (a skill that's still evolving) and I have my own (some would say warped) "aesthetic" which I try to cultivate. I regard it as a shame that most folks don't just experiment more.
I had an interest in fashions growing up. But I also thought that male fashions would soften and become more feminine, once men realiesed how good the clothing being worn by women back then felt. The soft ness and lightness of most of their clothes along with the silky feel of so many things women wore.
The term "unisex" was, and remains, primarily a code-word for "wannabe male"; this, in my experience, has been a truism since the 1960s. It even inspired the term "imitation man" to describe the phenomenon. I never understood it, save from the perspectives of power and control, in both of which women of the time, and to only a slightly lesser amount today, definitely came in "second place".

The interesting upshot of "unisex" was that men's styles became more rigidly defined as women's styles encroached. Ultimately, this has led to an astonishing dearth of "wiggle room" for the guy who wants something more than jeans, khakis, polos, or suits. The last gasp for men's styles happened in the 1970s when a whole lot of experimentation was going on; some of those experiments yielded results that were rightfully reviled, but others produced astonishing attractiveness. 'Tis a pity it's all gone now.
I lost all interest when I realised, ove the years, that I wasn't going to be given carte-blanche to wear the clothes I wanted too.
As has been mentioned here, if one is going to wait to be "given permission" to bend "the rules" then it'll be a long wait indeed. The only way to avoid that problem is to work up the gumption ("man up", if you will) and assert the right to individuality. It's worth noting that there is risk involved, but many things carry risk, and we just learn how to manage it. But, in no jurisdiction I have ever been in has it ever been illegal to bend the rules of fashion to one's own whim so long as the overriding rules regarding simple decency are adhered to. The "fashion police" and the What Not to Wear team may have other ideas, but their ideas and ideals do not intersect my life.
But that still means that I think knees are ugly [...]
And I still detest bare feet, so there. It's all down to opinion, and I'll admit to having a bit of a laugh regarding mine.

But since I like to show my knees off do I now have to give up wearing gloves? Can I wait until spring? :D :D :D

Good to see you posting again Diana, I was wondering whether it was something I'd said

Have fun,

That sounds like an invitation to say something witty or funny; but, I have never been very good at either, so why start now? OK, my excuse: it's the (medicinal) wine talking.
I imagine it will go downhill from here... :P

LOL, yep. Same with elbows. If anything, my knuckles are more wrinkly than my knees.

I like my knees - and generally speaking I do not find knees ugly.

I like my knees, too, ugly or not! Let's face it, knee replacement surgery s**ks! And, I'll bet the ugliest man or woman in the world would still prefer his or her face over none at all... :P

There is a 2,500 foot mountain in Co. Mayo called Croak Patrick. It has a very stony path to the oratory at the top, which is a place of penitential pilgrimage for those who want to do that sort of thing.
They say that if you 'walk' up there on your knees it'll save on the shoe leather! Then yer knees'll look ugly....
