Re: Sightings "in the wild"
Ok Stefan,
Where did you find the pic? What company handles this type/style
of kilt? What is their website?
Thanks!

I saw 2 skirted males in a recent trip to San Francisco. There was a sighting at the Gem and Mineral show in Denver,Co. and at the Indian Mart some months back.

Re: Sightings "in the wild"
Stefan, can you tell us what country you had these work kilt sightings in?

I grew up in Fort Lauderdale Florida which at that time and still is a "hotbed" of gay communities. However, the only gay men I ever met to this day that regularly wear skirts are Drag Queens and the former Mayor of Key West, his were all Utilikilts. Most gay men wouldn't be caught dead in a skirt, hopefully, that will change as skirts for males gain favor around the world.spotted two guys in the Tuscon airport in utilikilts and Hawaiian shirts. My wife thinks they must have been gay. I didn't get that impression -- but how can you really tell unless you ask?

I had to remove this signature as it was being used on Twitter. This is my OPINION, you NEEDN'T AGREE.

The sightings was in Sweden. And the company selling theese kilts is called blåkläder, a swedish company, and they sell worldwide. There website can be found at http://www.blaklader.se/en/change-market/ This company specialises in work wear.Since1982 wrote:Stefan, can you tell us what country you had these work kilt sightings in?

Re: Sightings "in the wild"
Ah, yes, Blåkläder; if I recall correctly, one of our little community (cessna152towser) posted a link to an eye-stabbingly bright (think "optic yellow" as in tennis-balls) skir^W kilt that was explicitly designed to be visible. And likely to blind any observer to most everything else in the vicinity.stefan wrote:The sightings was in Sweden. By the by Stefan, one can list one's location rather innocuously in his profile and not betray precise points. Of course now that we know where you live....

Skip,
I was wondering, if you would change your comment about Michael Jackson in your signature, following recent events. I just don't think it's right to mock the dead.
I was one of his biggest fans.
I haven't seen any skirted men about at all for a long time

Re: Sightings "in the wild"
Hi again,
Today I sighted a man in kilt. It was a black and red tartan. He did however not have any sporrans, knives or socks. Just the kilt itself so he was obviously not scottish. He must have been about 30 years old. Lately I have sighted more skirts than I have in the last couple of years. But them again it is very hot weather in Sweden rigt now. It is in the upper 20ies close to 30 during the day. Lovely weather for a skirt.

I was walking over the Hungerford Bridge in London. There was a man playing bagpipes in a kilt (in itself not particularly notable) but walking towards me was a man in a plain black casual looking kilt.

WorlFest California...
Grass Valley, California
Just this past weekend.
Several UtiliKilts (to include mine), several sarongs, and one guy in a dress (similar 'jumper' style his female companion was wearing. I've seen this guy before over here on the coast in tie-dye dresses... looks good, and comfortable).
Many nice comments about my UK.
I do wish I had brought along my MountainKilt and my Amerikilt.
The black Workman's kilt was almost too heavy and hot for the 90+ (32+ C) daytime temps.

Re: Sightings "in the wild"
Cant say much visible around Auckland except for a backpacking Scottish bloke in kilt and sporren in downtown Auckland a few weeks ago. A lot shorter than my corduroy one. Probably not applicable, as national dress. Lots of national dress near here from Middle East etc. some being long and caftan-like blowing in the wind.

My first "mainstream" sighting
I have been a devotee of the Boston Red Sox (that is a baseball team for those of you not from the US) since at least 1958 (when I was four years old and my dad told me about Ted Williams) and belong to a couple of Red Sox forums (fora?). So today, I'm taking in my daily dose of Red Soxiana, and one of the regular posters puts up a picture of himself in a moment that is reminiscent of a famous player, and he's wearing a kilt!
And what's more, nobody mentions the kilt in any of the subsequent posts!
I'd put up a link but I feel a bit weird about cross posting from one forum to another.

Personally, I'm not a big baseball fan but my grandmother was. As a little girl he saw them win the World Series in 1918 and then waited for another win. And waited. And waited. They finally won another in 2004, and she passed away a couple of weeks later; she'd waited all that time. I don't know if she's smiling on the team now, having followed them through thick and thicker when it really was the "hometown team", but I suspect that she had a grin tonight as the the team retired Jim Rice's jersey number -- this was a chap who spent his entire major-league baseball career with one team: the Red Sox; that makes him a "hometown boy".

anybody in NC can see me in Charlotte airport in my utilikilt to greet my beautiful wife!!
Re: Sightings "in the wild"
I attended a Celtic fest in Dayton, Ohio last weekend. Now, I've been going to this fest for the past 4 years. (I bought my first kilt there) The first couple years there were only a handful of kilts, not counting venders and performers. Last weekend, however, there must have been at least 50 guys in kilts of all kinds. I felt right at home.
