Yes but in Melbourne I have only seen 2 men in kilts over the last 10 years and certainly no skirts. I suppose that most people who see me either do not care or thing I am rather odd or perhaps worse.

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
Last night we went to downtown Wilmington for the evening. Had an excellent light fare at a Vietnamese restaurant, then went to the Don Cheadle film "Miles Ahead" which was an amazing portrayal of Miles Davis by Cheadle, worthy of the Oscar in my mind, and excellently produced with, naturally, an excellent soundtrack. Wilmington is such a fantastic city; I hope we can afford to relocate closer once I can retire, but still have 3 more years of college for my son ahead, and home prices there are well above the state average and growing. My conservative rural environs are nice, and affordable, and it was a great place to raise kids because there were so many kids here, but there is NO CULTURAL LIFE. Unless you are part of the the multitude of bizarre independent evangelical "churches" (tax dodges?) that seem to flourish in every vacant building.
I wore my newest ruched (gathered at side seams) black mini (hem 2-3 inches above knee) by Toad & Co. with a brightly floral on black background Hawaiian shirt. I had four compliments on the shirt, but no one said diddly-squat about the skirt, LOL. Either it looked bad or they were too uncomfortable to mention it; I don't think it was exactly unnoticeable. Especially in black flip-flops with a beaded anklet and a small toe ring. But I recognize that they were at least looking, so I was not displeased.

What I wore on a brief outing to a slot parlor yesterday. Despite the brightly colored top, snug skirt and high heeled sandals, no one paid me a bit of attention. But then, everyone was too busy working slot machines to notice me.

Just as an observation I think that once you take the Sex aspect out of clothing I find it surprising just how good a lot of clothing looks on an individual. Jeff really carries off his looks even though his clothing is "female". It jus goes to show that the same clothing that is intended to flatter one body shape of one gender does the same for a similar body shape of the other gender. Of course there is also the matter of confidence which Jeff has in spades. Show people the way and many will follow.

Franinskirts & hoborob: Thanks for the kind words. I go to great lengths to present a tasteful and stylish appearance for my public outings. I'm of the opinion that, if done right, men CAN look good in women's clothes, and I'm proud to prove that theory right. I want to look my best in the clothes I choose to wear, and isn't that the goal of every fashion freestyler?

Hi Jeff, great outfit!! Where did you find those sandals?? I have been looking for some like them and have not found any that are not covered with dodads and such.
I like just plain leather and no sparklys. The bag looks great too! I bought one that has a long strap so that I can use it as a cross body bag. Mine is just a little smaller than yours from the looks of it.

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
Yesterday a young lady came into the shop and wanted to buy a vintage blouse. She saw I was wearing a kilt and asked me about my skirt. I proceeded to tell here the usual. (much cooler, ease of movement, etc.) She was very enthusiastic about men wearing skirts. I told her that I was "easing" into wearing skirts in public by wearing a men's kilt. She told me I shouldn't worry about it and I should wear any type of skirt I want. Made my day. Plus I made a sale.

Today is primary day in SC.
So I donned my bleach washed denim skirt a nice sport shirt and my cross chest bag and went to vote.
Not even a double take not a single comment was made. I loved it!!

Thanks for the kind words. Regarding the sandals, they came from Payless and are called "Stacey". You can check them out here:Franinskirts wrote:Hi Jeff, great outfit!! They come in black (which was what I wore), white and gold. However, while they go up to size 13, they don't come in wide width, so, depending on your shoe size, that might be a problem for you.

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large
Bought an interesting skirt on Saturday, a gray 17 inch mini with a fringed or "distressed" hemline, so I took it for a spin yesterday. Despite temps reaching 90 with abundant sunshine which made things feel hotter, I felt perfectly cool and comfortable while the skirt was fun to wear. During my time outside, including an hour spent in a crowded city park, the only person who gave me a odd look was a homeless man.

I work 1 day a week at a friends jewelry boutique and I often wear a kilt but today, for the first time, I'm wearing an actual skirt. so far no one has mentioned it. It's a knee length camo cargo skirt with a black vee neck tee and sandals. It's much cooler and lighter than a kilt and it has POCKETS!. I'm a little apprehensive about being seen in a skirt but I'll see how the rest of the day goes.

Good luck at work. It should not be any different than wearing your kilt to work.
