Last night, at Grumpy's (bar where I go to Open Mic on Tuesdays)
I wore.....a shirt with a plaid-like design, a grey and black "Warrior Cloth" (sarong), and...socks and shoes (normally I bring sandals to change into when I get into my sarong, but the way things have been, I just haven't bothered recently). That is what I was wearing when I was on stage.

That's a really good look, IMHO, very professional. Unfortunately, it probably wouldn't go over here on Wall St. (or even 5 blocks north thereof, where I am), but it really ought to -- it's better than what most of the guys at the big investment banks wear.

I did notice that you are "in shape" the same way I am (a friend's T-short says "I'm in shape: round is a shape") As far as I can tell, your kilt does not have what the Utilikilt guys so delicately call a "beer gut correction." Does anyone know if more conventional kilts are available with such a correction (3 inches in my case)? Or do you just have to make your own kilt if you want it?

It's a very dignified look, in my opinion -- something that the typical business "power suit" just doesn't convey as power and dignity are two very different things.

I especially liked the shot of Cessna152 with the aeroplane from a few days ago which I entitled, "A Man and his Machine". Both are splendid looks.

As an aside, where can I find an office like that? I'm rather sick of modern low-rise brick-and-glass blandness.

I absolutely LOVE Cessna's business suit. Unlike Carl, I think the suit conveys (and Cessnea's "presence") , both power and dignity.as well as competence, confidence and experience

I could even see this look working in Boston.

A lot of the veracity of this look comes from Cessna himself.

It is not just the clothes, it is also the man who wears the clothes that makes then acceptable and believable

It would work anywhere

Post by JRMILLER »

There's no reason why this outfit wouldn't work anywhere. In this specific case, he is wearing all men's garments. I mean, it's not like he's wearing one of Sapphire's florals.

Didn't really go anywhere today, just watched the TV most of the day and played some online poker. I lost, boo hoo.. wearing a purple one piece garment, don't really know what to call it, very short sleeves, straight to the mid calves, sort of a combo nightshirt/shift/jumper thingy. VERY comfortable. Just flips on over the head. No shoes, just sox..Boring being retired with no living relatives. Put an ad in a dating service last week for a live-in FEMALE of a similar age as me. Maybe I'll get lucky. :)
I had to remove this signature as it was being used on Twitter. This is my OPINION, you NEEDN'T AGREE.

Final Christmas food shopping today at Coles, a large supermarket which was packed. I wore a navy blue short sleeve cotton shirt over an ankle length, dark sand coloured Gap cargo skirt, belted with thick R.M.Williams countryman belt, and sandals as footwear. The place was packed and, though I got a few double takes, all I encountered gave friendly smiles back to my eye contact and smile. The most important thing to wear is total confidence. I lost the S.O. and spent some timecruising the aisles as she did the other (wrong) aisles

Second Contra Dance

Post by JRMILLER »

Went to our second contradance last night. Wore a "braveheart" tartan kilt (sportkilt -- fairly lightweight), red polo, black knee socks -- nylon, fairly thin, but not transparent and black men's dancing shoes.

Didn't get any rolled eyes or looks of horror, but realize that kilts are unusual around here. Several asked if I was a Scottish Dancer, I said, well, I do have some Scottish blood and I am a dancer. Then I told them I wore it because it was much cooler than just about anything else I could have worn, especially trousers!

One guy asked me if was a kilt or skirt, I said "yes". Then he asked what the difference was, I told him "well, skirts are normally made for women and kilts are normally made for men". He nodded his head and walked away looking a little confused.

All in all, my confidence level was at 100% WRT the kilt, I was fussing more over the polo because it wasn't fitting as well as I would have liked. Contradancing is very demanding and the clothing has to be right. You don't have time to stop and make adjustments!

The dance was a blast and my wife and I are hooked. If you haven't tried it, do try it. You won't be disappointed!

Had to go into the office today to complete some battery life cycling tests. Since I don't get paid to work out of office hour I regard this as my time and so disregard any dress code rules.

Today I wore a black denim Union Kilt with rolled down black socks and black suede shoes and a black fleece pullover (no heating in the office at weekends).

Several colleagues were in at various times (all disregarding the dress code) but none commented on the kilt.

Have fun,

Ian.

Yes. See the new forum that was created on 2007-12-22. It'll be under my username; I'm the ugly one.
