And so it becomes important to throw the "old thinking" out if it no longer serves us well. "Men do not wear skirts!" is a great example of obsolete thinking; it's time to do away with it.
It's a sneaky use of words "men dont" that keeps men in their place.

There's a reason for one of my favourite cracks being, "I may have been born at night -- it just wasn't last night." I've circled our "day star" more than a few times, and some of the memories gained have stayed with me. I also study history -- not just that of computers.

I own quite a few kilts and they do look very smart but they aren’t as comfortable as wearing skirts bought from the women’s clothes section as the materials used for kilts are too rough and heavy for me. It’s strange but even my dad and my aunt approves of me wearing a kilt even though it’s a type of skirt and yet they gasp in horror when I wear skirts and think I’m going through a mental break down. It’s strange.
My name is Arty. I’m a guy with a passion for wearing skirts, dresses and tights and a hobbiest musician and artist. 8)

Not in our neck of the woods it isn't Arty.
It's exactly how society shackles men and boys into conformation with society's expectations.

That's why I have been sewing my own kilts with lightweight cotton twill and chinos. And I make sure they are machine washable and retain their pleating with minimal ironing.
