What colour is your shadow?
Scott Stuart's son likes to wear skirts and dresses. So he wrote a book: My Shadow is Pink.

Wow. That kind of unlocked a forgotten childhood memory.

Re: What colour is your shadow?
I think that the message contained in this book could be applied to a lot of us around here!
No idea how long ago, I was recommended to read this by a young person who wasn't even a parent.
I also can't recall if I mentioned it in a thread either.
Steve.

Fox "News" and MickeySloth "News". What did you expect. This is the sort of dreck you find when you dredge the bottom.Barleymower wrote: ↑Mon Apr 07, 2025 6:50 pmhttps://fox5sandiego.com/news/local-new ... -district/

They are not the only ones. The book is also banned in Malaysia and according to the author, 5 other countries.crfriend wrote: ↑Mon Apr 07, 2025 8:07 pmFox "News" and MickeySloth "News". It's not the book, per se. Books cannot have that effect by themselves. It's when they're wielded and misinterpreted by zealots that one gets into problems.

Now for the sake of all our mental well being drop the KJA and consign it to history and obscurity.

Re: What colour is your shadow?
Stevie, I have no particular interest in the KJB and don't get in involved in the whole Deuteronomy thing here. Not my rules and I don't live by them. However, I have been through first holy communion four times now. I did it myself and each of my children did it. Why? I wanted them to have some knowledge of what it's all about. None of them are practicing now.
Sitting there week after week in Mass and the classes, I came to some conclusions:
- The parishioners were good people
- Our catholic father was a good priest. He was an ex formwork chippy, and heavy drinker who found a better way
- Mass was a good time to relax. You were stuck there for 90mins and with no escape, so might has well take part and forget the troubles of life
- The bible is an interesting book. Well written inasmuch as it can be understood by primary kids and studied by theologians. Not many books can claim that.
If you you live roughly (using your own judgement) by its teachings you wont go far wrong. Don't beat people with it. Overall I think religion has done more harm than good. Although who knows where we would be without it.
Does religion affect MIS? Hell yes. That book has caused more anguish for MIS than anything else.
Re: What colour is your shadow?
I’m surprised, and more than that, by learning that a teacher can be fired for reading My Shadow is Purple https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pjqJ2t1qQw for her fifth-grade students and ask them to work with the subject by finding ‘their’ colour.
With my otherwise rather conservative eyes, I cannot see the slightest of a problem with this book. It is just about a boy seeking acceptance for being the boy he is (even if including gender).
Sorry to say, but the reactions against it gives me associations of Nazi-Germany or communist countries during the cold war, not something that should be possible in 2023 (or 2025) in what we call(ed) the free world.

Re: What colour is your shadow?
Before roughly the 1930's boys routinely wore dresses. Since then people got it through their pointed heads boys should "man up".

Re: What colour is your shadow?
Thank you Barleymower for enlightening me to this book. I notice that there are other books in the series: ‘My Shadow is Blue; and, ‘My Shadow is Purple.’ I will definitely be buying these books to read to my grandchildren who are of the age for these books.
The eldest is six and she is becoming more aware of the world around her. On her last visit she said to me, “Oh, Bambi you’re wearing a skirt.” It wasn’t a question but more of an observation. I replied, “Yes. I like wearing skirts.” Nothing more was said because she was busy playing Princesses with her sister and we carried on enjoying the day. I have the feeling that we are on the cusp of a conversation about gender stereotypes, et al.
As they get older, I am looking forward to introducing them to ‘The Boy in the dress’ by David Williams, and, of course ‘Billy Elliot.’

I think we are all on the cusp of a genuine conversation about gender stereotypes. We have gone from a point where there are only two accepted genders and burning anyone who doesn't fit, to a hundred different genders.
Would it be easier to let people just 'be' without putting little labels on anything ?
