I concur on those points, but I'm quite confident I'm not going to see it during my lifetime. It looked promising for a while, but that's been dashed. I don't know how old you are, but I'm in my mid 60s and the day I lose my job will be without support income or access to health care, so I'm figuring maybe three more years, tops. Then if becomes a problem for my Executor (that is, if I have anything left in my bank-accounts).
I am just in beginning my 30s so i have a long time left to go and even then i don't know if it will be enough to see it for myself but only one way to find out and that's: wait and see

Too right, Stevie. As a lifelong member of the former category I indeed could be sad and lonely, but I didn't push my skirt-wearing proclivity with MOH and we're working on our 57th year together and surrounded by no fewer than 16 healthy and interesting descendants, all of whom we see regularly.

In retirement my hands have not been allowed to go idle and a current project is to break yet more old pallets up & convert them into a landmark arresting architural marvel in our orchard, which with absolute certainty will outlast me by a long time.

It makes me happy when I see commercials advertising men wearing skirts. However, judging by the negative YouTube comment on that video it makes me feel sad.

Just a thought.
Any retailer selling skirts, sells skirts for, or, that, can be worn by men.
Unless they have some very weird business plan, that is.
Steve.
Once again I admit that you are 100% correct. The problem lies totally with how we see things.

Thanks everyone for this very interesting thread.

My hope is that each time someone sees one of us in a skirt, it makes it a little less unusual the next time they see a man in a skirt. At the same time, I have to recognize that I am very lucky to live in a place where a man wearing a skirt does not attract that much attention.

My reading of the advertisement was that the message to female (heterosexual) shoppers was that the clothes look so good even their boyfriends will want to wear them. The man trying on the skirt was presented as amusing because the behavior was counter-normative, but not so far beyond the pale that it was beyond the bounds ordinary sartorial curiosity or experimentation. Perhaps there is a subtle suggestion that if you buy something that your partner might like too, maybe you should consider purchasing two of them. (Caveat: I do not speak Dutch.)

For what it is worth, there was a performance at the 2025 Grammy Awards that featured both male and female dancers in skirts mixed in with others in shorts and pants.

On the sizing of skirts, I think many women would tell us that the size on the label is just a number and may not be helpful. My wife once bought 2 pairs of trousers (pants} from M&S which were identical apart from the colour but one was a much better fit than the other. I've tried skirts in the size I normally wear and not been able to fasten the waist.

So true Mr S, but shopping, trial and error is all part of the fun of wearing skirts whether you are male or female.

Indeed it is Keith, but the commercial is most unlikely to prompt a straight female to buy a skirt for their equally straight male partner.
Not impossible but the lady would be the exception and nowhere near the "rule".

It did occur to me, that some of our partners may get encouragement from such an advert, that buying a skirt for their MIS is OK and not strange. I freely admit a very small audience, but as you say not impossible.
Daily, a happy man in a skirt...

And very good they look too; there's a hint of Marlene Farmer there! however, as for the song, better played with the sound off me thinks...

People will be toxic to try to maintain the status quo. That will stop once the thing they are pushing against reaches a critical mass of commonality.
