Knee socks with skirt

Discussion of fashion elements and looks that are traditionally considered somewhat "femme" but are presented in a masculine context. This is NOT about transvestism or crossdressing.

Knee socks with skirt

Post by skirted84 »

Does anyone like wearing knee socks instead of tights in cold weather? Basically skirt to the knee or nearly knee and socks to bottom of knee (not over or folded back).

I like wearing black knee socks but with sheer tights for extra warmth when it’s winter. Knee socks go great with kilts and pleated knee length skirts that look similar to kilts. I usually make my own knee length socks by cutting the legs off old pairs of thick opaque tights. However, generally I prefer wearing leggings or tights with my skirts and dresses.

Not something I've ever had a problem with.

My black, Over-the-Calf compression hose
works great with 95% of my skirts/kilts.

If it's really cold, I'll wear my fleece-lined tights.

I usually wear knee socks folded over (traditional style) with a kilt in winter. I sometimes wear straight knee socks with a kilt-length skirt, but in winter I tend to prefer tights, though I will wear socks with a longer skirt (no cold gap!).

I have a pair of knitted thick wool knee high socks that I will put on over thermal tights when it gets really cold.

I dislike wearing tights or leggings and wear long socks in cold weather. Because my skirts are short my socks are very long as not to show any bare thigh below the hem. I wouldn't call them knee socks; perhaps high thigh socks.

Given your location I would be interested to learn what constitutes cold weather for you?

Cold where I live (expected this week) is around minus seven during the night and zero at best during the day, but it’s often windy, so the windchill is what makes it feel cold. Fortunately it seldom lasts much longer than a week or so.

I usually wear 60d tights in winter. My daughter wears two pairs when going to work in the cold weather, but removes one when she gets there.

A couple of years ago I tried some 250d tights but they were too hot even during a cold spell, so they didn’t last the day. They also almost up to my armpits, which made them impractical.

I wear knee socks with skirts. The most common for me to wear are from Goldtoe. I wear the heavier athletic style in black. They only come in white, black and I now see gray on Amazon. They make a thinner version which I don't care for.

I also wear them with kilts when I don't want to wear the more expensive kilt hose.

I have dyed the white ones. They have enough cotton to take some dye. 82% Cotton, 14% Nylon, 3% Polyester, 1% Spandex.

Yes, with kilts. Otherwise, no. I prefer opaque tights if it’s cold.

Not only knee socks, but over the knee, thigh high -- even "high thigh" per Anthony's nomenclature, depending on the temperature, setting and 'look' I may be striving to achieve. More comfortable than the alternatives, albeit you may have to give 'em an extra yank or two during the day.

In the winter, I live in Ontario Canada, I wear knee high socks with my kilts or skirts. The socks only reach the bottom of my knees, no fold over. Kilts, skirts reach the top of my knee in winter. I find I am good with that up to -15C as long as it is not to windy. Below that or on windy days I will wear tights. I have debated about getting some thigh high socks but haven't as of yet.

I wear knee socks with a skirt in winter. Coldest so far -9C but rarely get to that in my part of the UK. This week -6/-7C.

My skirts are mid calf length in winter. Tried tights in the early years but not comfortable. Knee socks are great for me and never feel cold. I do with trousers on!
