They sure are and that skirt may well have been cut from a curtain.
Could have all sorts of possibilities for a recycling/repurposing/DIY enthusiast.
A project but not for me.

I am intrigued by the cut of this skirt. I think it would be great to wear; snug where it needs to be and very free and flowy lower down. If it was cheaper I would buy it to try it, although longer than my usual fare and not my choice of textile.

I've worn polka dots, but nothing as large as that. Hmm! Perhaps I might give something like that a try.

I saw this several years ago. Thought about making a utility type kilt like this. Never had the time to pursue it.

Oddly enough I kind of like it. Especially the idea of being able to be a little bit pleated one day, and fully pleated the next. Recall the brand or where you saw it?

I saw it on Pinterest being sold by modaoperandi.com. It is no longer on their site. They have some unique items on that site but the prices are ridiculous. Apparently based out of New York.

Heh - I found that gap somewhat hilarious - you'd think any of the zippers could suffice. Still trying to work out in my head how one would go about modifying an existing skirt, and possibly where to source cheap zippers.

7 visible zippers on one side - the other side ? ? ? maybe 7 more - - -
And then the hidden one to fasten close the waist ?
Zippers have a metal tang and the teeth are metal would make for
a crisp very rigid pleat and abrasive against other objects rubbed
up against. Care taken wearing tights (pantyhosiery) for runs !

Zippers in a notions dry goods sewing shop probably $5-6 each
on eBay much less.

Now the difficult thing to estimate the LABOR to sew in place
those zippers - a lot of intensive (labor) work in planning pinning
the zippers for the sewing machine to do it work times 14 (more?).
Each zipper would only be closing the closed gap between two
pleats and not to the interior within the skirt.

NOTE Coder's post about the $3820 price tag

The machine to sew the zippers would not have to be special
like a serger but still yet there would not be a lot of room for
the needle to do its magic fastening the zipper to pleat.

Nylon plastic zippers could be used but would not have that
crisp edge to make the pleats stand out.

Final note/comment avoid airline travel - the TSA machines
are going to go bonkers and then some wearing this thru
security - even the hand held wanders are going to flip out !

I found one quite cheaply on eBay.
A miniskirt version a couple of years ago. Only bare skin behind the zips though - so the options are only slits; big, little or none; many or one.
Only the front zipper fully disconnects for putting it on like a wraps skirt.

It isn't too odd, but I find the length and composition of the fringe to be a bit weird. Without it it's 11.5" long, with 14.5" long.
