My guess is that this may not be real news,
If it is, the chances are that the animals have learnt that the men act more aggressively toward them.
The proof may lie in some guys trying to drive them off while wearing skirts but I doubt that will ever happen.
The women may simply feel more confident while wearing trousers and that works too.

Pretty sure this is real news, since it came from a global trade newsletter, and not social media or anything political. I think it’s quite likely that the apes perceive sex differences based on clothing and understand that women may be more easily intimidated from driving them away from feeding in the village fields. Too, perhaps skirts revealed more pheromonal scent from females, although I suspect it’s more a visual cue. I had enough experience with monkeys when I was teaching in Ethiopia to know just how perceptive and how devilish they could be. As my mentor advised about them, “If you leave your door open they will come in your house and steal your bread, then run up a tree and throw crumbs down for you.” I could count on them to be an alarm clock of a sort, because every morning at dawn they ran back and forth on the tin roof of my quarters. The one day I really needed to be up and out that early was the day they didn’t show up. :o

I have seen a hi-viz skirt/kilt advertised, but can't remember which catalog it was in, it was a workwear catalog but not sure which.

If memory serves, it may have been Blaklader (note that the spelling may be incorrect).

"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

Interesting that there are such things as hi-vis skirts. I suppose with a hi-vis mini there is not much to be visible anyway and I would have to wear hi-vis knee pads.
