Re: Boys Protest In School Skirts
I was in a local café and a group of primary school children turned up with their mums for afternoon tea....All the girls were dressed in their
school uniform summer dresses and the boys were dressed in traditional School Uniform short trousers....
Perhaps this is the problem....in so far as Kids are not dressed in traditional school uniform....
Locally the Mums have taken to wearing skirts when escorting their kids to the village school in this spell of warm weather.
Am I justified in suggesting that the Mothers are to blame for this drop in traditional school clothing standards ? Weeladdie

Re: Boys Protest In School Skirts
I've just read the foregoing five times and fail to see where the youngsters weren't dressed in their school uniforms, nor can I make the connection as to why their mothers' wearing of skirts whilst escorting said youngsters can have any impact whatsoever. All I get from this is that the boys are acclimated to twin-tubes pretty much from birth and the girls mono-tubes.weeladdie18 wrote:I was in a local café and a group of primary school children turned up with their mums for afternoon tea....All the girls were dressed in their school uniform summer dresses and the boys were dressed in traditional School Uniform short trousers....

The girls will later "rebel" and start wearing trousers; the boys won't do a thing and stick to what they've always known.

Re: Boys Protest In School Skirts
In the UK it is fairly common for primary (age 5 - 10) boys to wear shorts as part of the school uniform, particularly in summer - in fact there are some fee paying schools where it is the uniform and nothing else is allowed.
At secondary (11 - 16 or 18), then the mandate appears to be long trousers (for boys). The girls often have a choice of skirt or trousers, or a summer dress.
I've been thinking about the various 'shorts protests' and have come up with the following idea:-
The shorts ban isn't really aimed at the boys - although there is the risk of jeans cut-offs and the like appearing, which would not be appropriate - but at the girls, who would be likely to turn up in 'short shorts', which gives a hemline way above that allowed in a school skirt.
Of course, the UK climate is normally such that it is advisable to cover as much of the body as is practical, so 'shorts weather' is a fairly unusual phenomenon (current conditions excepted).

Re: Boys Protest In School Skirts
Perhaps we ,as being old enough to be parents or grand parents can remember the days when boys wore shorts or long trousers as part of
their school uniform.
If the boys are not allowed to wear shorts as part of their summer school uniform , it does make sense for a boy to wear a skirt as part of
his school uniform.
Do we ,as men in skirts , see this issue in a slightly different context ? weeladdie

I'm no fan of great rigidity in dress codes, so giving every student the choice of wearing trousers, a skirt, or shorts on any given day seems fine to me.weeladdie18 wrote:...If the boys are not allowed to wear shorts as part of their summer school uniform , it does make sense for a boy to wear a skirt as part of

As men in skirts, I'm sure we're more sympathetic and in fact more encouraging in letting boys wear skirts. In fact, I sometimes muse about schools having a weekly skirt day on which all students, girls and boys alike, would have to wear a uniform skirt. It would then be interesting to see how many boys showed up in skirts on other days.weeladdie18 wrote:Do we ,as men in skirts , see this issue in a slightly different context ?
Not that any such thing is ever likely to actually happen.
Or are there still academies that require boys to wear kilts?

Simply put, the purpose of a uniform is to have everyone dress uniformly so if everyone is to dress uniformly they should all wear the same uniform

Ah, but we need coded methods to tell the boys from the girls, and we expect that division to be absolute -- hence most of the hangups most westerners have about guys wearing skirted garments.oldsalt1 wrote:Simply put, the purpose of a uniform is to have everyone dress uniformly so if everyone is to dress uniformly they should all wear the same uniform
Yes, it's screwed up. I'm trying to help fix it, but it's a very big fight.

I'm starting to see more and more women who I'm mistaking for men!crfriend wrote:Ah, but we need coded methods to tell the boys from the girls, and we expect that division to be absolute -- hence most of the hangups most westerners have about guys wearing skirted garments.oldsalt1 wrote:Simply put, the purpose of a uniform is to have everyone dress uniformly so if everyone is to dress uniformly they should all wear the same uniform

Before long, men will HAVE to wear skirts just so we can tell them apart from women!

Re: Boys Protest In School Skirts
I alluded to that quite a while ago when I complained that I'm having a difficult time finding a woman attractive enough (to me) to actually "go after". I find that I am not sufficiently homosexual to "go after" the modern notion of "feminine beauty". In short, I'm not "into" teenage boys" and that's what many of the modern "women" tend to look like. (I like softness and curves. I actually like brains, mostly, but physical norms are important, too.)moonshadow wrote:I'm starting to see more and more women who I'm mistaking for men!
That may not be all that much of a laughing matter...Before long, men will HAVE to wear skirts just so we can tell them apart from women!

Usually there are some choices, some laritude. The questions are what type and how much.oldsalt1 wrote:Simply put, the purpose of a uniform is to have everyone dress uniformly so if everyone is to dress uniformly they should all wear the same uniform...

As if people can't tell the difference between boys and girls, particularly after puberty! I don't think that a common uniform could mask the differences, whether trousers or skirts.

Re: Boys Protest In School Skirts
The boys are protesting because it is too hot for trousers and they are not allowed to wear shorts....The protesting mothers are dressing their
sons in skirts as part of their cool summer uniform......To provide uniformity in a mixed sex school the next obvious move would be to ban
trousers and shorts in schools and make both the boys and girls wear school uniform skirts..
This would provide a sense of discipline and uniformity in the school uniform. Some years ago some schools gave up the standard school uniform.
The standard of discipline dropped and the school uniform was reintroduced. Nowadays many pupils do not wear ties and do not tuck their shirts in.
Neither the boys or the girls wear hats. ..
How do school children expect to be the citizens of tomorrow if the education system cannot teach them to dress in a smart and responsible manner ?
This is My Birthday Rant...... bring back the cane ....and dress the schoolboys in skirts.....Wearing skirts has not done us any harm ..... weeladdie

Re: Boys Protest In School Skirts
WL, that's because the youths have the adults to look to for examples and a lot of adults wear such grungy clothes and set very bad examples. So they figure that if the adults can't be bothered then why should they. How do school children expect to be the citizens of tomorrow if the education system cannot teach them to dress in a smart and responsible manner ?
