Hi Alasdair,
Could be another name. My skirt is straight but not pencil with front pleat and rear zip. It's in pics and looks somewhere.
I'd reckon the original design stems from c1930s, very staid, conservative and office appropriate. Ha Ha etc.

For 40 years I lived in shame. I came to a time in my life (last year) and decided to take the leap and say #$%@ it!! I started to go out in public with my skirt. The few people who new and seen what I wore from time to time would tell me that I have a talent for fashion and could even teach a few women how to put a good outfit together. Even though I still wear men's sweaters and shirts and sometimes footwear with my skirt I would get compliments.

That being said, I went to the doctor today and sat in a waiting room with 10-12 people waiting. The secretary escorted me to the exam room and smiled at me (I will take that as a compliment since it was a welcoming smile). My doctor said he already has other patients that do the same so it was no bother to him and he was happy that I was facing my fear. I then left and realized I needed fuel so I stopped at the gas station. It was also lunch time and I was hungry so on the way home I stopped by the grocery store to pick up food and get some flowers for my wife. I have been to the grocery store and Shoppers Drug Mart 4-5 time each in a skirt already so going now does not faze me to go there. I wore my above the knee denim skirt with 40 danier black tights and my tan boots.

I now look back and say "WHAT THE HELL WAS I SO AFRAID OF??" I am happy that women are pushing for gender equality and loudly because it goes both ways! Men too have the right for equality and in our cases it is about fashion. No one make comments and keeps to themselves. I FELT AMAZING AND PROUD! I walk like a man, talk like a man and look like a man even though I am in a skirt so I just want to let those who are still afraid to go out know that the little voice in your head that does not allow you to go out is LYING TO YOU!! All the fears that it causes is not true!! Women are equal to men so it makes men no lessor of a man to wear a skirt.

We are trend setters!! We all know what is happening to men's wear on the runway when it comes to adding skirts to our wardrobes and it needs to be seen on the street more as well so lets keep the movement moving forward and get out there and show off that skirt!

I am having difficulty in getting pics on this web site (I don't know how to make the KBs smaller) but as soon as I figure it out I will send a few pics.
Personal style is important to me. Even when my outfits may contain skirts, tights and great ankle or riding length boots! I enjoy fashion and am excited to get in on the conversations with the like minded!

That's a common theme with the men here who have been wearing skirts for quite some years -- Why was I so afraid?

It's basically nonsense, really, and it's a fear brought about by an unknown -- that of how folks around one will react. The good news is that, for the most part, very few do -- and those who do tend to be positive, or at least curious, and if you've got an interesting or compelling story are virtually always positive and supportive. The only ones that seems to have a "down" on the notion are family members and -- especially -- spouses and significant others.

Get used to the community a bit, read some more posts, stories, and anecdotes. Once you've topped the customary post-count without the moderators stepping on something, a sub-forum will "magically" appear, and that has a very good "sticky thread" about the ins and outs of posting images.

Welcome aboard, and I'm happy that you faced your fear head-on and conquered it.

Thank you crfreind! My shame came from my parents when I was young, I was humiliated. Now through counselling I no longer let the past control me. I confronted my father after so many years and he said it was his and my mother's shame for doing what they did and he wants to see me happy. My relationship with my father is now the strongest it has ever been!

It sounds like you have a resounding triumph there. My father never found out about my alternative sense of style, but that's partially because I hadn't really latched onto it when he passed away.

Cherish what you've got!

:welcome:

Hi Feeling freedom,
Welcome to the skirt cafe. I for one have been wearing skirts and dresses now for over 2 years. And it has been wonderful!! Sure I have had the few IDIOTS who can not fathom a man in a skirt laugh but I let it run off my back like water off a duck. I have not worn pants or shorts at all. So keep going out and about and don't let the IDIOTS make you feel bad. :laff:
:thumright:

I agree wholeheartedly with Fred. Be who YOU want to be, not who society wants you to be.

Thanks Fred and Jeff! Idiots are a dime-a-dozen and they are the ones that have issues/insecurities. They don’t deserve one second of my attention. I will ignore them.

Cheers!

Good for you! That's the best possible strategy. Besides, encountering idiots is rare at best, more often than not, you'll get compliments on your attire if you look nice and dress nice.
