Re: Article in Sunday Herald (Scottish newspaper)
Long may it continue!
All very much connected to Scottishness, whether born or adopted. And worn almost exclusively at formal events, Scotland sports matches, or to exhibit Scottishness. The only person unequivocally in favour of modern kilts is the African! But the more men wear the kilt, the more likely it is that (i) they will look beyond the traditional version, if only for a bit of variety, or (ii) they will inspire other men to wear it too.

In Scotland, is there any interest in the utility type variants?skirtyscot wrote:But the more men wear the kilt, the more likely it is that (i) they will look beyond the traditional version, if only for a bit of variety, or (ii) they will inspire other men to wear it too.

I personally have 2 of them. One black and one beige eavh of which I wear occasionally.
I have also seen quite a few others at dances (not just ceilidhs) and hill walkers among others.

Re: Article in Sunday Herald (Scottish newspaper)
I think I've only ever seen two (apart from my own, of course). And the same number of men in skirts*, so I can't tell which is catching on more!
Round here, tartan kilts have total acceptance as menswear, so if you're only going to go monopipe now and again, a tartan one minus the paraphernalia is probably as good a choice as any.
*one of them might have been an androgynous woman.

Re: Article in Sunday Herald (Scottish newspaper)
What stood out to me were the multiple responses from people who do not go "true Scotsman" -- i.e., wear nothing underneath -- because random strangers would lift up for a look. Imagine if a man did that to a woman! Come to think of it, one of the respondents made that same comparison. I am appalled that anyone over the age of two would think that is acceptable behavior anywhere, ever.

I think kilts look brilliant on Scotsmen.
Could i wear one? No. I really would feel like a fraud.

I’m an Englishman and happily wear a kilt (though mainly at special events). No one comments negatively and many compliment me. I say go for it.Stu wrote:I think kilts look brilliant on Scotsmen.

Stu, you don't have to be Scottish or Irish to wear a kilt.
ANY MAN CAN WEAR A KILT
I'm 'part' Scots - Irish and proudly wear my kilts
(I won't say which parts )
If I can wear a kilt, YOU can wear a kilt too

IMO, it depends on how 'hot' she looks. And whether or not she is, as intimated by her behavior, a true "naughty girl."Ralph wrote:What stood out to me were the multiple responses from people who do not go "true Scotsman" -- i.e., wear nothing underneath -- because random strangers would lift up for a look. IOW - is it a true precursor of things to come, or a flash in the pan?
OTOH I take it to heart that some form of underwear: boxers, briefs, panties, pantyhose - <valley girl tone> WHATEVER </valley girl tone> be worn under the kilt OR the micro and mini skirts or anything else that might allow for an inadvertant 'flash' that a lady might get away with, but NOoooooo - not a man!
