For those who have more money than brains

Post by moonshadow »

Found this whilst surfing the web today. No I don't plan to lay the money down, in fact I'm hooked on four dollar specials. But gheesh....

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/oscar-de-la ... tback=1282

Two thousand, two hundred and ninety dollars.... but it does have free shipping! (of course!)

I can buy about 570 skirts at a thrift store for that! That's like buying out about three stores worth!

Talk about "puttin' on the Ritz"!

Probably could go to Neiman Marcus and get it for a 10% surcharge more - at this point you could buy out the Thrift Store !
"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

That's two dollars for the skirt, the rest for the brand!

Bingo! You're buying the name tag, plain and simple. A skirt similar to that you can find at Ross, Marshall's or Burlington Coat Factory for one half of one percent of that price.

Aaw Shucks!....They don't have one in my size. Otherwise I'd have rushed straight in and ordered a couple

Nothing can make this skirt physically worth $2,290.00, even with the free shipping.

However, it probably flatters someone's ego that they can afford it.

The trick is to drop, "This? Oh nothing, it's an Oscar de la Renta," at just the right moment.

Heck it:
1. isn't even 100% silk for heaven's sake
2. isn't available in my local (San Francisco) store.
If they don't sell it in this extremely affluent city, where do they sell it?

For those prices Nordstrom should have custom sizes and not just a handful of stock sizes. There are other clothing items also with the outrageous prices.

I have this vague recollection of skirts like that, something about the "rock & roll era" way back when I was young. Didn't think much of them then, would not pay close to $3,000 Australian for one today. Anyway, they haven't got my size.

By the by, while I've broadened my skirt wearing horizons by adding prints, plaids and patterns, polka dots like this rather pricey example doesn't move the needle for me.

I bought a nice skirt Wednesday, $7, on half price day, so $3.50. I don't have it to hand at the moment, so I can't give you the brand, but it's a very luxurious looking thing in a mix of silk and wool. I would estimate it originally listed at $300-$400. I'll have a better look, but it appeared to be perfect, hardly worn.
