I read somewhere that if you can hang your arms to your sides and your fingertips touch the skin of your legs, the skirt is too short. Also that a mini would likely be 12" long (in gym short territory) and a micro-mini would likely be about 10.5" long (or in running shorts territory). Not sure how accurate that source was, but I don't particularly like my floor-length skirt, though it could grow on me, the same source recommended learning a 'kick-step' to sort of kick the fabric out of the way before taking a step, and I found out that I need to gather it up a bit in my hands when ascending stairs.
My 24' skirts could be 2 to 3" shorter in my opinion, but I will reserve judgment since sitting in the car and at restaurants means they ride up to about miniskirt level. Don't think it will be an issue since I'll most likely have support hose on, or at the very least some type of underwear.
Once I can get a mini and micro-mini I'll test them in the house before going out and about.
That will be the casual, everyday look.
For more serious occasions I hope to get a decent, budget 5' and later an 8' kilt, add the bits and pieces to have an Argyll, Tweed, and if I do take up the pipes I'll try to build a Prince Charlie outfit for those occasions. I'd probably size the kilts to be "juuuuuust" a wee bit above the kneecaps. Not enough to be obvious, but enough to create an itch in the knowledgeable observer's mind that something isn't quite kosher.
