On "fit and flare"
Over in the "corset thread" I mentioned that the combination of "fit and flare" can be very dramatic indeed and make quite the statement. Denizens here already know me for my waistcoats, but just recently ordered one of these and one of these from one of my favourite suppliers. These will go stunningly well with some of my newer waistcoats which fit closely to my body, will look good even with trousers, but ought to look outright smashing with some of my full skirts. Interestingly, this is a bit of a return to some of my earliest experiments but with a lot more overt elegance and opulent fabrics.
If all goes according to plan, they should arrive this coming Thursday afternoon, and I'll probably wear one or the other of them to work on Friday.

Carl, you know I love and support you and everyone who pushes the fashion boundaries; still, I couldn't help but post this link after seeing your shirts. Hope you can laugh at it, but I apologize in advance, just in case.

After those shirts, Carl you could try a denim skirt the next Friday. Your colleagues will be relieved to see you in something so masculine!
Only kidding! The shirts should go down a storm.

Keep on skirting,

Re: On "fit and flare"
It's worth noting that I have quite an advanced sense of humour (as well as warped) and also a very thick skin. However, I wore some stuff like that in the '70s (Yes, I am that old.) and what in blue blazes outlaws lace cuffs and jabots on guys? If that's codified in writing somewhere I certainly seem to have missed it.dillon wrote:[...] I couldn't help but post this link after seeing your shirts. I'll admit to never having watched Seinfeld when it was on (is it still?), mainly because I had too many other irons in the fire. I did watch a certain number of Cheers episodes, and altogether too much Doctor Who for a while, but I've mostly stayed away from the telly.
My motto now seems to be, "If it works, rock it!" Fit and flare on me work quite well.

Lawrence Llewellyn-Bowen seems to get away with the ruffed sleeves and neck to his shirts and looks good in them. And the velvet jackets, long hair and other accoutrements. He's a minor celebrity as a designer, decorator and so on.
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

Re: On "fit and flare"
Happy news arrived a little while ago from UPS (that's "United Parcel Service", not "Uninterruptible Power Supply" -- too damned many TLAs (Three Letter Acronyms)) in the form of a package with both shirts inside.
I'm currently wearing the fancier of the two (the one with the jabot and lace cuffs) and Sapphire says that, quote, "That is so you!". I'll be giving the other one a go in a few minutes. Both are likely to need washing to relax the shipping creases and wrinkles, after which they should look absolutely smashing.
The frothy lace cuffs don't hinder typing at all, but make reading a watch a bit more difficult than it needs to be. There's only a couple of things I would not even contemplate doing in these and those all involve very high-speed machinery that would rip the cuffs to shreds in no time flat.
Win.
