Why I DO post to Skirtcafé
...not very often, I must admit, but ...
1. I like to share my thoughts and feelings with people that may well think or feel as I do.
2. Since I don,t often meet other men in open garments, the café reminds me that I am not quite alone.
3. I hope that writing here may some day encourage other men to give skirts a try and discover comfort.
4. I may also help démonstrate that not all skirt wearers are transvestites, perverts or just sexually confused.
5. Because skirt wearers are no different than chess players, bird watchers, madrigal singers ... We all like to belong to a group and feel accepted.

Well said, Martin. I couldn't agree more.
Although the Internet has brought us together it's just a pity the World is physically so large and we are so widely scattered upon it. Certainly I feel very well disposed towards the regular contributors on the Forum and were we all millionaires we could have regular very convivial get-togethers.
The sharing of pics. & ideas I personally find very useful.

Re: Why I DO post to Skirtcafé
Because I am sitting here wearing a Prana sweater skirt, ribbed tights, and clogs, and my friends in this forum reading this don't find that strange. They do not think ill of me, or less of me, for my tastes. Because they understand that masculinity, like common humanity, has a multitude of dimensions, and altering one, or two, or even a dozen of those dimensions does not un-make a man.5. Re: Why I DO post to Skirtcafé
With me it was just knowing that there are other guys out there who feel the same about skirts, have found the courage to go public and who then discovered that you can skirt publicly without being laughed out of town. That helped give me the courage to try it myself. Still at the denim and kilts stage though, in the house I use a bit more variety, but I still have quite a few I would be reluctant to answer the door in (ridiculous I know). Then again, I still wouldn't buy a pink shirt, many men wear them, I just stick to blue, black and white, that's me I am afraid.
These days why do I post? only if something interests me, other than that I don't really have a lot to say that I haven't already said.

I always answer the door as long as I am modest.
It was interesting when I answered the door while wearing a floral maxi-dress and there was a group of Mormon Sisters.
And I have worn denim skirts and used men's public restrooms. Nobody batted an eye.

Re: Why I DO post to Skirtcafé
My reasons are the same as Martin's and B&B's. Also, having gained from this site the confidence to tell my wife about my desire to wear skirts and to start wearing them in public, I wanted to help to spread the word by continuing to post here. The more people there are posting here and telling the world that it is OK for a man to wear a skirt, the more likely it is that other members and visitors will be encouraged to put their own skirts on. And the more that happens, the sooner men's skirts will become acceptable generally. Then it will be easier for me to wear mine. So it is not entirely altruistic!
Apart from that, it has become a habit. I'm sure that, like other regular posters, I've said pretty much everything I have to say, most of it several times over!
Not very often, Martin? You are in the top ten who still post. Almost as verbose as me!

Re: Why I DO post to Skirtcafé
If I am in the top ten, then that makes me a little sad, as it shows how few public skirt wearers there are, vocal and unashamed.
Nonetheless, I am glad to be an active member of the open-minded, open-garment-wearing community we represent.

I like the terminology used by couyalair. I prefer a term like "open ended garment" to a term such as "unbifurcated" garment.couyalair wrote:If I am in the top ten, then that makes me a little sad, as it shows how few public skirt wearers there are, vocal and unashamed.

Re: Why I DO post to Skirtcafé
I post here for the same reasons as Martin, B&B and SS in that it is good to know that you are not alone. Indeed it is solely because of this forum that I first ventured out in an actual skirt (rather than a plaid kilt, which for a Scotsman is quite acceptable) when I wore a denim mini-skirt to a Motorway service station. (reported elsewhere on this forum)
I don't think I post much either but I see that I am only a few slots behind Martin.
If any of my posts encourage others to "join the revolution", then I will be delighted to have helped. I know that I have helped a group of Russian men (Moscavites) to wear kilts at one of their groups wedding which is great. Hopefully there are others even subliminally.
The message here is simple in that it is absolutely fine to wear a skirt (or if you are not as brave, a plaid kilt or a UK) in public and not be "run out of town" or otherwise ridiculed and I reiterate it again. GO for it! We need more skirt-wearers out there and we also need skirts to be sold on the High Street. I do fear though that it will be a long time yet before that happens to any real extent.
And Martin, I too like the term "open-ended garment" rather that unbifurcated or even worse the acronym MUG for "male unbifurcated garment". I didn't even know the word "unbifurcated" before I joined here (or more accurately "lurked" before joining). Sheltered life I suppose!

Re: Why I DO post to Skirtcafé
I love reading this site because it does make me feel part of a wider community with the same aspirations. The postings have certainly helped me to build confidence in my public skirt wearing. I'd love to post more often but my visits to the site are not regular and by the time I've read something I'd like to comment on, my thoughts have already been said by someone else and often more intelligently than I could muster. So you regular contributors please keep contributing. You are all a big help.

Re: Why I DO post to Skirtcafé
I entered this forum with the intention of being more or less anonymous and just reading posts. But as I read I found that I needed to share my experiences and to partake of the mutual strength that this site conveys. If it wasn't for you all then I think that I would have given in completely to MOH and stopped wearing skirts anytime. You have all given me the courage and resolve not just to battle on - but advice on how to advance skirt wearing quietly and by baby steps in the face of fierce resistance. It does take courage to step out of the door in a skirt and to face up and talk to others with confidence. Many times I have been really low and I have been picked up with your humour and empathy. I don't wear a skirt as often as I would like but probably more often than I expect to. ( Shades of a statement of Bilbo in Lord of the Rings about his relatives. ) So why do I post here - to try and reciprocate and encourage and let others know that there are those with the same desires, fears and opposition out there that struggle just the same. I see a lot of wisdom and intellect in you all and hope that I can just add a little to that.
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

Re: Why I DO post to Skirtcafé
As far as anwering the door goes, it's like the telephone. I rush to answer it. Usually, as I'm not for up the street, in a cotton t-dress, black or dark brown.
Can't say anyone seems to have done anything of a "double take". Customers of HiFi, sales people, meter readers...
I guess I post to Skirtcafe out of habit, and should continue my policy of cutback.
But then there will come up stuff I think might be interesting..

Re: Why I DO post to Skirtcafé
I first came to this forum out of curiosity to see what other guys felt about skirts, now I am a member have written a couple of posts I got the confidence to where my first skirt to the gym, now I where it at the gym, with shorts under for modesty sake. Now when my gym section is over I am disappointed as I have to remove it and put my normal shorts on. This is all due to the support of this forum, that's why I read and post on this forum.

Re: Why I DO post to Skirtcafé
I must say, Melsav, I respect your courage in working out in a skirt. I too go to a gym, but am not quite that bold, though I do wear women's workout tights; a couple pairs by Jockey, both black, one in a heavy lycra/polyester fabric, the other in cotton/spandex with ankle drawstrings, a pair of Capezio Sport lycra capri tights, black, and Danskin cotton/spandez tights in grey. Since my gym is full of US Marines, that's about as bold as I will likely get.
I skipped the gym today, as I worked all day cutting, splitting, and hauling firewood, and left enough cut at my source site for two more loads. Trouble is that my wife is getting a bit perturbed at the amount of our back yard that is being covered by my expanding woodpile. I already have enough for the remainder of this winter and next winter also, but with really good red oak, white oak, and cherry being given by a friend clearing corners and borders of farm fields, and grateful to see it not wasted, I just can't say no. Even with my stacks built six feet high, I am covering a lot of grass.
Anyway, my workout with the chain saw and splitting maul was harder than anything I do in the gym. I am now aching and "all stove up" as we say down here. Thank goodness for having some hydrocodone left over from some surgery I had last summer. I will at least sleep well tonight.
