Does anyone know?ee

Post by wsherman »

Hello!

I've heard it related that M.U.G.'s help regulate the temperture of ones male anantomy thus increasing the chances of reproduction. There is also some stories that M.U.g.'s help decrease the risk of cancer of the prostate and testates (sic). I can verify the reproductive side but I'm having trouble finding anything on the cancer issue. Does anyone have any information on this?

It seems to me that if this is valid then there is a compelling reason for wearing a M.U.G. of any kind!

So recognizing that my search fu may be lacking I'm calling on the members of Skirt Cafe' for your studious help in nailing this one down.

Is this just hearsay or is there hard core truth here?

Hi Bill & Sir Brinkley,
Wearing my Medical hat here and I tend to look at the journals &c. So far there has been absolutely no authenticated research done with that actual question as the core issue.

Any real effect on the incidence of Prostate cancer due to the wearing of unbifurcated garments remains firmly in the mind or opinion of the promulgator, who would of course be a kilt/skirt wearer and all too keen to attach some spurious health benefit to that activity.

I actually practice dentistry and when patients come up with some theory or information they read about in a womens' magazine my reply is that we professionals tend to glean information from our journals which bristle with genuine research results and what one reads in the fashion press is not to be trusted at all.

On the other hand, Tom, people are prone to believing in all kinds of myths and legends (even going into battle to defend thingss that can never be proven), so why should we not believe in this harmless little theory?
We may not avoid cancer or be more reproductive through wearing open garments, but they are not likely to cause us any harm. Some people are ready to die for their beliefs -- walking out in public (and doing no-one any harm) is far easier than planning suicide or murder. Having a firm belief in the health benefits of mugs would surely encourage more men to get their skirts into the light of day.

Well said, Martin and I totally agree (I wish my wife did, as well!)

I was just rabbiting on about authenticated research, any of which needs a large sample size to be even remotely relevant, so let's all try to increase this 'sample size' !

I did find this page for prostate cancer around the world:-

http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/cancer- ... cer-world/

It shows the "developed countries" have a much higher incidence of it than in Asian populations - it doesn't relate the values to clothing but there could possibly be a connection?

SkT,
You might also glance at the relationship between diagnosed cases and mortality from prostate cancer. The lower down the scale you go, especially Africa, the mortality rate gets dangerously close to the incidence rate, which speaks volumes for the medical treatment available in the developed countries.

I would also by the same token question the 'prevalence' or diagnosed rate in these lower countries. You bet there are legions of cases out there that never get near to being identified or diagnosed, so the graph is bound to be inaccurate in the extreme.

Who compiled it anyway? My scientific training prompts me to question everybody's results, seeking to scrutinise the materials & methods by which they were arrived at, sample size &c &c.

Well this has certainly made for some interesting reading! Thank-you for the input.

Perhaps one day some medical researcher will deem this a worthy area to delve into and the antedotal will become fact.

We know from experiance that kilts, skirts, sarongs, etc. are comfortable and much more suitable for the male anatomy. "Form follows function" as they say or as the quote from Paul Harvey begins "In a logical world..." .

It begs the question though are there real health benefits to the M.U.G.?

Before I forget , Tom what was the meaning of the Gaelic you inserted after "Slainte'" ? I'm afraid I am not anything like knowledgable in the language except for a few phrases. One day I shall have to look into how I would go about actually learning it.

Hi Bill,
I'm a bit rusty in the Gaelic but I translate "Slainte leatsa fein" as "Good health to yourself".

You see, Bill, in Pleated I have a compatriot who like most of us learnt Gaelic at school but probably hasn't actually used it since, hence the rust, but his translation is spot on.

That's also a comment on our very damp climate here where everything left outside tends to rust....like my trusty 19 year old car which continues to do what it says on the tin and consequently still serves as my daily transport, but the bodywork rust is there for everyone to see.

Slainte agus beannacht,

Tom
