Actually, I think it may have been before that when it was Tom's Cafe. I think something happened with the server and all the users were wiped out and we all had to re-register.
Ten years is a veritable eternity in Internet Time!
According to the database, Charlie registered on the same day as this forum was instantiated, using some of the data from the old
Tom's Café system. The then administrator (Noodles) wanted to retain the "tomscafe" moniker as a tribute, so when the mantle was passed to Bob a new identity had to be created. The result was "skirtcafe.org" and that's what it's been since. A fair number of folks successfully made the transition from Tom's to here which was fortunate, and those are the guys that really are the pioneers in men's skirt wearing. To them, a large debt of gratitude is owed for we truly do stand upon the shoulders of giants.
Sometime in the early 2000s, the software that underlies the forum's functionality changed from vBulletin to phpBB -- this is what likely caused most of the grief to the community. The two systems are similar to one another (which isn't surprising as they do substantially similar things), but the databases were different
enough to keep everything from being successfully pulled over from Tom's Café. We've since been though a number of subsequent software upgrades including a major one in 2008 and several minor ones since.
To Sarongman -- Thanks for the kudos to the team in the effort to keep noise and junk under control. It's really appreciated.
I've only been around since 2004 or so, although I was familiar with
Tom's and occasionally lurked there, as well as here for the first couple of years. I believe I started dabbling in skirts in 2002 or so, and didn't really get serious about it until 2004 when I formally registered here (and have been an opinionated pain in the backside ever since).
It was Tom (God rest his soul) and the other guys in the cafe that gave me the confidence to 'go public' in unbifurcated garments, mainly kilts and sarongs, and I haven't looked back.
So, to all the guys new to skirting, stick with it - confidence grows and as others have said, very, very few people notice or care.
That's why we're here!
