Heavens knows what the designer was thinking of, but I know for a fact that if I ever appeared on the street wearing such a thing (without trousers) I'd get nicked in a moment's time for indecent exposure.

Tails like that are fine on a tailcoat; however, a "skirt" they do not make.

The third and fourth might qualify as aprons...
...if you wear them back to front.

Looks like a coat and tails without the coat.

They are just totally ridiculous, now come on they don't do anything to create a positive perception of skirts as a regular article of male attire, in fact the reverse is true. Maybe as the ritual attire of an obscure society a man might wear them.

What is the point of these? Skirt or what?

Post by henri »

Believe it or not, I was sitting outside a Pub in down-town North East London, a delightful but a bit scruffy cosmopolitan suburb called Dalston. Dalston is on the up because a couple of years ago London Transport introduced a new train service into the area, called Overground. It is a bit odd as about three miles down the line you have to go down into a Tunnel to catch the Overground but go upstairs to catch the Underground! We could only do that in London but I digress.
Whilst chomping away at my Dalston-Burger, a guy came in wearing one of these bizarre skirt - cum - apron - cum - tailcoat thingies. There was I sitting in my proper skirt and stockings, even I had to have a quick double-take to work it out. Bizarre? Obviously someone wants to wear a skirt but can't quite get it together to go the whole hog ...?

Edit 8 October, bored with Newsnight after our useless politicians have reshuffled the Government. However one Lady, who I did a little work with promoting the Overground in 2000, before I wore a skirt out, then only indoors, progress you see, has been given a Government job. Now whenever I met her in the Commons lobby I always got a kiss. How will she react if I were in my Skirt!
Anyway I digress again, the creator of this 'Smithie' replied very speedily to my e-mail, and he says it is intended to wear with leggings, rather than trousers. Hmmm .... I'm telling him to join us if he's serious

Hmm, if they want to call those things skirts, then what is this thing I'm wearing that goes all the way around the lower part of my body?

No, can't see much point in this half-skirt ... except that it the continuation of historical menswear whose one aim appears to be to draw attention the the wearer's crotch. I have always been amazed at they way men have apparently been so keen on showing their cloth-bound bulge, from mediaeval cod-pieces, to cut-away jackets, to clinging 18-19th c britches, to today's tight jeans.

They're just ghastly, and they give "men's skirts" a bad image and bad impression.

LMAO at what goes as fashion. Do you think the manufacturer wanted to double sales by selling half a skirt? Perhaps the garment was meant to be worn in pairs.
As a matter of fact, the sun DOES shine out of my ...
