Smile ...
... you're on candid phonecamera!
Recent postings on the topic of seeing comments about yourself on the internet made me wonder how many of us are sure we have been photographed without our consent because of our skirts. Not that you can complain about it if you are in a public place, but how common do you reckon it is?
I know I've been snapped. I was sitting on a train one evening, wearing a skirt and tights, minding my own business. A bunch of guys got on and noticed my attire pretty quickly. They were a short distance away and neither they nor I tried to engage in any conversation, i.e. I ignored them completely. Suddenly one of them stood up, moved to get a good clear shot, and took my picture. It happened so fast I didn't have time to move into a clearer pose or anything! Maybe I should have spoken to them at that point, let them take some more photos, have a wee discussion. But they were neds to a man, probably not sober, and there were about 5 of them, so I decided to carry on ignoring them. Note to self: must learn how to handle this sort of situation better. More confidence called for!

Re: Smile ...
Very difficult to know what to do when taken by surprise, whether it be stolen photos or unexpected comments or questions. What could those lads possibly want to do with your photo? Sell it? ha ha. A few years ago, it might have been to blackmail you. Today, what else than putting you on the internet to show their friends and probably exchange snide remarks.
If one knew where the pic and comments would appear, there'd be a chance to put your own point of view and show that you are proud to have the balls to wear what you want in public. It's a pity, Ss, that you didn't ask them to let you have a copy, or at least to send you the URL, but I'm sure you
There are cameras everywhere these days, small and discrete, and anyone can be snapped incognito. When someone stands up and takes your photo openly, it's a pity not to take advantage of the situation, and show that you have no hesitation in showing the world you are not just another sheep in the uniform flock, and you are proud of the fact.
Not trying to tell you what you ought to have done -- I'm sure I would have been quite tongue-tied and at a total loss for something intelligent to say. It does not help when you are faced with drunkenness --and out-numbered too.
Next time !

Warwick and Toowoomba are getting more CCTV cameras and so we all are photographed (by Big brother) and it would not take much for the people monitoring the screens to remove a still picture for their own pleasure. I'm not sure of the legality of that, but the cage fighters in drag giving the thugs their come-uppance got on YouTube, and copied to this forum, so maybe anything goes.

It seems to me that when you go out skirted in public you're pretty much saying, "I don't care who sees me this way." So by logic, you shouldn't be worried about people seeing you in a photograph.
And while it might be interesting to show Google a photograph of yourself and tell it to search the Internet for matching pictures, I'm not sure I want everyone else looking for me what way. Googling my name is bad enough.

Courage, conviction, nerve, verve, dash, panache, guts, nuts, balls, gall, élan, stones, whatever. Get some and get skirted.

Re: Smile ...
I've seen three examples of this kind of thing in recent times all on Facebook. The latest one was a topless man walking through a town in Liverpool on a warm day with shorts on and white pop socks (knee length) pushing an empty pram.
Somebody had sneaked a pic and they were all laying into him like vultures due to the fact that there's currently a fashion police ban on men wearing long socks and this man had shown the audacity to violate this ruling. There was only myself and another person who stood up for him. One man even called him a nonce.
The other two were both women. My memory is a bit sketchy on both. The first one was on a bus and I think she had been wearing trainers instead of shoes with a dress. The other one was of a lady at a fairground who'd made some other trvial mistake with her outfit that warranted punishment by means of social media.

I don't find the idea of men wearing skirts, tights or dresses whilst presenting as male degrading. What I find most degrading is society dictating that men should only dress in a certain way, whilst affording the opp sex an unrestricted freedom of choice

Re: Smile ...
On the way home from work on Friday last, I too as obviously snapped. I was wearing my 19" khaki cargo skirt at the time. There was a crowd of lively but decent kids around me (I think there was 11 in the group) who were just on their way home from a week's holiday camp or something similar. The lad and girl opposite me were very friendly and the girl smiled over quite a few times. The lad asked me what station I was getting off and they confirmed that they would be getting off at the same station - so there would be no shuffling their cases and back packs around to let me off if it was sooner.skirtyscot wrote:... you're on candid phonecamera!

I know I've been snapped. I was sitting on a train one evening...
They were texting, playing misic and taking a few pics of each other when the lad opposite (whilst pretending to look for some music) took a picture as the flash on their phone went off.
I was going to ask them if they should have asked permission to take a photo but then, I was in a public place (train) so why would it bother me. I just ignored it in the end though I am sure they would have fine if I had said anything to them. I might even see it on a forum somewhere in the future!

This may be just the T shirt slogan for us as we go about our business skirted in public. An Irish friend posted it on Facebook and I immediately liked it.
