Interesting men's pattern links!

Post by BrotherTailor »

I found these two patterns at sewing central:
The first is a man's gown - Zupan, a Polish male garment from the 17thC, basically a calf length dress belted at the waist and embellished check it out at http://www.sewingcentral.com/cgi-bin/We ... 4760_16515

The other is a coat worn with the above, a Kontusz, with hanging sleeves that slips the wrists into and is very full and gathered at the waist (at least that is what I 'gather' from the diagrams). The coat is a trifle higher than the gown, allowing a fringe of colour to show at the bottom all around, and also belted snugly at the waist. http://www.sewingcentral.com/cgi-bin/We ... 4760_16515

Thank you for discovering those, BrotherTailor! They are such different styles from what is available for men today. Makes you wonder why people work to invent new designs when there are so many wonderful ones from the past to resurrect.

Hi SkirtChaser,
Thanks. We live in a sad and stress tormented era here in the West. The lack of self expression in garments, especially for males, is a symptom of a much larger deficiency of an emotional sort...an emptiness inside that gets expressed outward in blank monochrome assembly line men. We are afraid...

Guys,
Have a look at http://www.travelsmith.com -- the Men's section.

They make a lot more use of fabrics and color than the average retailer. I can see a lot of possibilities for combining some of their blazers with skirts and appropriate shirts of course. There are some very exciting items on their site!
