Video: history of trousers/pants (and skirts)

Post by finrod »

Here's a lovely video about the history of trousers/pants:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOz2U83VI-8

It makes mention of how skirts & robes were once the norm worldwide, of trousers being banned in ancient Rome, and of western women gaining access to trousers in modern times.

Very interesting, and speaking practically, trousers are much more practical for many task over skirts, though shorter skirts maybe employed where stooping and bending are required without being overly cumbersome (minus the accidental flash), in colder climates however trousers would be the more logical choice.

Much of the video had to do with women wearing trousers. And rightfully so, people should wear whatever they want, or need to for the task at hand.

All that being said though, the only thing I thought was a little off center with the video was the man in the video seemed to have this idea that western men are still the only ones who wear trousers in western culture.

Aside from the hardcore religious types, women can, and do wear trousers all of the time without incident. It seems the research, well meaning as it was, was just about 60-80 years late on arrival.

Oh... and that woman wasn't mounting the right type of bike for a skirt, even so I could have gotten on it in a knee length circle skirt with ease. Clearly she's a "skirting amateur"
