German busdrivers wear man skirts.

Post by janrok »

Just a campaign to attract women busdrivers to apply for a job but still quite remarkable.
It shows that mens skirts are no longer a no-go.

I like it! The tag-line is pretty good, too: "Who wears the trousers is not a matter of gender." (Or something similar to that; machine-translation is still not yet entirely accurate.)

In this case the machine translation is spot on.
Perhaps these skirts were delivered by Skirtcraft, Joe's first succes!

Hilariously, the machine managed to translate the masculine form of "tram driver" (stadtbahnfahrer) differently than the feminine form (stadtbahnfahrerin) which came out as "City Track Cycling". One can sort of make it out if one accepts that trams run on tracks, but still.

Nope, these look like wrap skirts with pockets and pleats in the back -- pretty darned sharp-looking, too! I'd wear one of those in a heartbeat.

They are good looking. I wonder if someone could find out the source of these?

Very smart!
and a great advert, not just for women drivers, but for male skirt wearers.
It would be nice too to think that the models really are tram drivers and that they got to keep their skirts.
I wonder if we'll ever hear any more of this.

With a second look at the original article, it appears that the transport company really did issue a certain number of kilts to the men, and it appears that they have begun wearing them as part of a new uniform.
The outfits were all designed by Thekla Ahrens (fashion designer?) and are part of a campaign to improve the company's image. Whether it will attract women drivers, who can tell? -- though it seems to me that since most women wear trousers, they will opt for the bifurcated version of the uniform, in which case the men drivers are quite likely to keep using their skirts -- to avoid looking like women !!!
A member of the staff claimed that the company was the first to allow men to wear skirts for work, but, to my knowledge, employees of a window-cleaning firm wear kilts, and someone recently started producing beer he calls "men skirt beer" in North America, and there are hotels where doormen wear non-traditional, non-tartan kilts in Scotland.

Why do they want to "attract women busdrivers"?

If they need bus drivers, then they need people who can drive buses. How is having a uterus a qualification for driving a bus?

Let the one's who have the skirt/kilt spread the word
on how comfortable and cool they are so the rest of
the male drivers would demand to have them as part
of their uniforms.

That would be a WIN for all men :kiltdance:

It's not a matter of having a uterus, but one of equal treatment. There's a quota for the number of woman they employ and this is their way to attract more woman for the job.
If you're always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be.

Quotas are the opposite of equal treatment. Equal treatment means equal opportunities for all and a quota system mitigates against that.

People often confuse equality (of opportunity) with parity - they are quite different and they sometimes conflict.

Makes me want to become a tram driver in Germany, but they'd have to let me wear a skirt!

I am wondering if the company had a skirt available as a part of the uniform for the ladies, and the lack of women making applications was down to the assumption that they would have to wear skirts? And this was a way of saying it's optional?

And I agree, I'd wear one of those skirts/kilts!
