Threads Going Off-Topic

Post by Bob »

As is common in any Internet forum, threads at SkirtCafe go off-topic from time to time. For example, a thread might start out being about Irish tartans and end up discussing Coke vs. Pepsi vs. 7-up. This is all OK, as long as the off-topic conversation does not violate basic SkirtCafe standards of mutual respect and decency. (And please keep in mind that just about any topic is fair game for the "Other Stuff" category).

It is important to understand that this is a public forum, and no one "owns" a thread --- just like no one "owns" airspace if a conversation wanders at a party. If anyone here would like to own a thread, that should be done in a blog format. SkirtCafe would be happy to link to blogs of its members.

Finally, if you feel a thread has gone off-topic and would like it to get more on-topic, the baristas (moderators) have the option to split the thread. This is not an infrequent occurrence on some boards, and it really does help when reading posts. You need only drop a PM to a barista (or use the email address at the top of this page), and we will be happy to split the thread.

Well put, Bob!

As you say, some threads do 'branch out', often in completely different directions! But that's just the way conversations 'in the real world' do, too! It has always been one of the strengths of this forum, that folk feel sufficiently at ease to 'talk' to one another. And, of course, just as at a party, in the office or whatever, groups will 'split off' from the original theme and discuss some element in greater detail. Get someone loudly arguing semantics, and the room goes quiet, just as it has here on a few, recent occasions. Before long, they're alone in the room, bellowin' to themselves, as others look for a quieter venue to carry on their conversations.

Well put, Bob and Merlin! Maybe things will calm down now that our dear sweet master barista has popped in. Does that mean that face painting, Carl's input, is allowed in the pantyhose thread? hehehehehe :):):) :alien:
I had to remove this signature as it was being used on Twitter. This is my OPINION, you NEEDN'T AGREE.
