Can the bots see the restricted areas?
I see I am not alone at the cafe this evening as a Google bot and Yahoo bot are listed as registered users along with me and one other person. They have grey names while the people have clickable blue names leading to our profiles. I assume the bots can't view our restricted areas, do I have that right? Just checking to be sure before I make another attempt to get skittish Quiet Man here for a visit.

That's correct -- or at least is the fervent desire. All the settings indicate that the bots (whilst showing up as users) have the same sort of access as any other "guest" or anonymous user. Bot-detection got turned on with the new software load as the bots confuse hit-counts and whatnot; now they're not treated as human visitors.Skirt Chaser wrote:I see I am not alone at the cafe this evening as a Google bot and Yahoo bot are listed as registered users along with me and one other person. The bots cannot see the restricted Pics & Looks forum. They would have to register for that, and that has not happened (nor would we approve a bot registration).
The rest of the forum, I believe is open to bots. We could probably change that as well by putting in appropriate code to tell the bots to go away.
Opinions, anyone?

Good to know friends won't bump into photos that might take them by surprise while looking for photos of skirts. I like that the guys here share with just us when they post a photo.
I think it is worthwhile that posts to the open access areas enable search engines to draw people in here for more information if they hit a relevant post in their search. All the people being articulate here deserve a wide audience to influence!
Still humming "Boten Anna" (Anna the Bot) since I noticed the bots last night and driving Quiet Man crazy (maybe he'd visit here if I promise not to listen to BassHunter when he's home),

The same goes for the "Skirted Get-togethers" forum. Both of those were explicitly created with members only in mind, and are invisible to anonymous browsers and bots.Bob wrote:The bots cannot see the restricted Pics & Looks forum. Actually, bots are a specialised subset of the "anonymous" user; they have even fewer permissions granted to them. So, what you can see before you log in is roughly the view that a bot will get.

A 'Blast from the Past!' I haven't heard of citronella candles in years. I remember using them on vacations in Michigan when I was a kid. Well... a younger kid!
