Weather & a Related Phenomenon

Post by Uncle Al »

Most of us worry about weather and how it affects our brethren at Skirt Cafe'. One of
our members is in a different situation. He lives on the Big Island of Hawaii, near Hilo.
Please keep Skirtedmarine, and his family, in your thoughts & prayers.

My wife's cousin lives on the Big Island but is on the Kona Coast, 80 miles from Kilauea.[0]
He said his family is in no danger at this time.

[0] For those not aware, Kilauea is an active volcano. It's last MAJOR eruption was in 2014.
The most devastating eruption was in 1924. Volcanologists fear the current eruption will
be similar to the 1924 event.

Indeed.

I believe that Tor is from that part of the world as well. Here's hoping the best for all that are affected by this event.

At least our brethren in the Old World don't need to worry about this sort of stuff!

I agree on this as long as you don't live in the south of Italy, Iceland, Canary Islands or Azores. In France and Romania you can still see the weathered cones of old volcanoes.
Once I climbed the flanks of the Etna (Sicily) as far as I was allowed. A month later that part was flooded with hot lava.
They recently dug up the remains of a horse in Pompeï that was victim of an eruption in 79 AD.

I think Tor is in Colorado, not Hawaii.

Madame Pele' is thinking of what to do next :!:

If things don't stabilize with this global warming she just might blow her top !
Which is more in likely to happen anyway.
The lava flows are not adding to ocean beach front property but building more
in a vertical direction.
The concern right now is not so much the slow lava flow but the potential of
an explosion hurtling large size chunks of boulders in the vicinity and the
Dangerous life threatening gases being blown about.

Madam Pele needs a peace offering - I have some ideas here but can't print
them - after protocol - it wouldn't be any more peaceful but you get the idea.
"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

As Beachlion pointed out already, amongst other France has old volcano's, e.g. the Puy-de-Dôme near Clairmont-Ferrand. In 2012 I was rather surprised one day at about 3 a.m. by a screeching sound, almost like a series of aircraft going through the sound barrier. It was an earthquake of 4.2 at 12 km's from where I was staying at the time. Recently it was suggested that the Puy-de-Dôme may become active again in the near future. But still, it's nothing compared to Hawaii.
