What's happened to this cafe?

Post by Elisabetta »

I miss when everyone got along. You could actually have civilized discussions and not have the worry of threads being locked. Its a shame people can't be civil anymore.

Countless people have left this site and I'm starting to think I know why. Not attempting to start anything just stating I miss the fun times this forum use to have. I'll be taking a break from posting not sure if I'll return. Too much childish behavior.

Hi JennC03,

I'm sorry you feel this way but, I too miss the 'fun times'.
I've seen several people leave and the Cafe' has been much
better for it. Others are a great loss to the Cafe'. I do hope
you'll stop by and read even if you don't post.

I didn't want to 'Lock' a particular topic/thread but the PM's
I received from certain members, cemented the lock.

I don't mind healthy CIVIL discussion. That's what makes
the Cafe' a neat place to visit. It's just that the civility was
going down hill at super-sonic speed. The spark was ignited
for a very bad 'flame war'. I've seen it happen too many times.
I don't want another 'war' at the Cafe'. That will loose members
FAST. That is why I used the fire hose to put out any growing flames.

Please give Moon my best and wishing you a blessed Thanks Giving.
Don't ever give up. You & Moon have a great family :!:
Wish you were closer as I'ld give you a big 'GrandPa' hug :D

I too would like to know what happened to the Cafe.

Apparently I am the cause of the latest lock up.

I have reread the posts I made numerous times. and except for my sarcastic comment about the sometimes verbose nature of Cr's remarks .

I did not directly attack anyone. I was directly attacked, but that seemed to be ok.

I did make a strong statement about how I feel about people who only complain about My country with out doing anything to correct the system . If anything this response was in answer to comments made by Carl not anyone else on the cafe

In many instances I have tried to show support for the members of the cafe.

I still don't understand it but some how my initial comments offended Jenn and Moon I apologize for that but I will also say nothing intentional or personal was meant.

I don't mind civil debate or discussion oldsalt however I think all of us need to be adults. We're not kids anymore and it shouldn't have to take Moderation to get us back on track.

I'm not offended just I had to call out the behavior maybe I rubbed you wrong but as a reader I felt you was on attack mode. Anyways I don't want this thread locked let's all get along. I have no issues with you oldsalt let's start a new day and everyone have a better understanding about each other. I think next time kindly send a PM and we can have a nice chat. Have a blessed day!

Dont sorry about it OldSalt. We all (myself included) share in the blame for running the thread off the rails and indulging in a hot button political issue.

Your pride in country is commendable and your efforts in promoting men in skirts is also. Though we may disagree on a few matters outside of the realm of the cafe I do enjoy and appreciate your membership here.

I too apologize if I offended.

And if you don't mind.... I'd like to share a little humor about internet fights and people who complain about people complaining...

Two strong tendencies:

1. For discussion to turn to politics.

2. For discussion about politics to turn nasty.

Forums that are supposed to be apolitical therefore usually ban discussion of politics.

Oldsalt, Jenn, Moon et al, all families or groups exhibit disharmony at times, sometimes for the most trivial of reasons. MOH and I had another serious blowup about skirts again. I mean really serious - so serious that we were only communicating via text messages. As far as she who must not be named is concerned she has won, whatever that means, and I think she thinks that things are back to normal but not for me. It seems to have taken all the spark, the life and fun out of me and for what. I have resigned myself to wearing skirts only when she is not around. But life is sort of back to normal and we are to all appearances civil. What I am getting at is that disagreements are all well and good, just draw a line under it and get along in other ways. They have happened and will happen again in future. It's how you make up and move on that matters.
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

As somebody who mostly sits in the background, reading the forum while occasionally inserting a steering oar into the flow, I'd like to thank the posters above for the good-natured qualities of the posts. It seems that normal service has been restored and we are all better off for it.

Thank you, folks.

Have fun,
