Re: Your own reality...
Perhaps we should start putting quotes around terms like "liberal" and "conservative" because they are yet two more very useful words in the English that we have lost due to corruption and misuse. I can't nail down the precise year we lost them, but it's absolutely within the past three decades that they went from their proper meanings into becoming the slurs that they are today. Like the old term "gay", we may never get them back again -- and the language is poorer for it.
Perhaps it's time for me to abandon English. If one cannot communicate in a language, what's the point in continuing to use it? The main question is whether it'll be Latin, Klingon, or Italian...

In spite of some others' beliefs to the contrary, I view the past eight years as an extension of the eight years prior to it.oldsalt1 wrote:I definitely agree just look at the last 8 years

Hey, oldsalt, talk about mixed mottos - Star Trek and Star Wars.
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

Did you get a chance to see rogue 1 I thought it was great. I don't know what they are going to do now losing hans was bad enough but now with leia gone. I guess if they want to make a star wars 8 they have enough extra scenes left to kill off Leia. My favorite Star Trek was the voyage home. The last two star trek movies were great are they making a follow up. .I am not a treky just a big fan

Misuse! ..... in some instances, politically, they are used almost as antonyms of their original meanings. A bit like decimate.crfriend wrote:Perhaps we should start putting quotes around terms like "liberal" and "conservative" because they are yet two more very useful words in the English that we have lost due to corruption and misuse.

I believe SW viii had already finished shooting and it's now in final production for release in late 2017; SW ix is where they now have some script rewriting or possible re-casting?oldsalt1 wrote:Did you get a chance to see rogue 1 I thought it was great. I think we should be able to continue using English; just so long as we don't confuse it with the primary languages spoken in our respective countries (UK & USA)crfriend wrote:Perhaps we should start putting quotes around terms like "liberal" and "conservative" because they are yet two more very useful words in the English that we have lost due to corruption and misuse. Re: Your own reality...
Mom's been talking to an Italian guy lately. It might get serious.
Apparently he travels the world. This could be exciting. I told Mom I won't be one of those step-sons that always wants money from the rich new dad, but if he's that well off, perhaps he could at least spring for some plane tickets to Europe to visit my mother once a year. What a vacation to look forward to!
Anyway, I bring this up because I told Mom that with all this news, I'm having a desire to learn the Italian language.

Re: Your own reality...
That depends. Are we talking full-blooded English in its intact form, or are we talking about the watered-down, corrupted by PC, and frequently useless for detailed work version in use in the US (and likely in the UK as well)? English in the US is starting to look (and sound) very much like "Newspeak" and that's what's driving me stark raving bat-sh!t crazy (which is an adjective I'd not heard before until it was applied to my ex-).Disaffected.citizen wrote:I think we should be able to continue using English; just so long as we don't confuse it with the primary languages spoken in our respective countries (UK & USA)
I pick my words thoughtfully and diligently, like a hunter picking the proper tools to bag his prey. To use the analogy, what happens when I request a round of hollow-point and receive a balloon full of hot air in return?
I picked Italian above because it's such a beautiful-sounding language -- almost musical in its character. Klingon, on the other hand, is more in tune with my attitude on current matters in the world around me, and Latin because it's completely fossilised (thereby yielding its own set of problems in adapting it to the modern world, especially the technical one).

Great glad to have a source of information People who don't like the stuff can say whatever they want. I just think it is great entertainment. I am sure you saw rogue 1 the last scene with Leia taking off in the same ship as the first scene of SW4 was an amazing tie in. When was SW 4 made 35 40 years ago. I liked SW 1 wasn't to thrilled with 2&3 and so what If 7 had a lot of duplicate scenes from 4 it brought back happy memories Better stop now or will have to start a new threadDisaffected.citizen wrote:I believe SW viii had already finished shooting and it's now in final production for release in late 2017; SW ix is where they now have some script rewriting or possible re-casting?oldsalt1 wrote:Did you get a chance to see rogue 1 I thought it was great.
