2016. You will not be missed.

Post by crfriend »

Well, from a Prime meridian perspective it's done. 2016 is history, and I'm happy to see the back of it.

The IERS did what they could and delayed the inevitable by a second. Yes, I blame the French.

We shall see what 2017 holds in store. My hopes are not high at all, but perhaps I'll be happily surprised.

Traces from the NTP stratum-1 timeserver in my kitchen:

Code: Select all

2016 366 23 59 51 50
2016 366 23 59 52 52
2016 366 23 59 53 53
2016 366 23 59 54 54
2016 366 23 59 55 55
2016 366 23 59 56 56
2016 366 23 59 57 57
2016 366 23 59 58 58
2016 366 23 59 59 58
2016 366 23 59 60 0 <--- The "Leap Second"
2017 1 0 0 0 0
2017 1 0 0 2 2
2017 1 0 0 1 1
2017 1 0 0 3 3
2017 1 0 0 4 4
2017 1 0 0 5 5
In the above, the columns are: year, day, hour, minute, second, and skewed-second for the leap which is the way the new algorithm (No, Al Gore did not invent it) works the problem.

At least I'm off the roads for the evening. It's "amateur night" tonight (Saint Patrick's Day is the other big one in these here parts) for inebriated drivers, and I stay away from that. I think I'll put my night-clothes on and wind down. I am not staying up for 2017-01-01T00:00:00 in New York City.

Could not agree more about 2016, good bye..

Bad year for those around me. First my wife's uncle passes (thankfully the only one last year). His sudden death left me trying to support his widow in sorting out her finances.

Second my mother is diagnosed with lung cancer and needs a new heart valve fitted. The heart at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London. She was lucky to survive but she is strong and recovered well. Then to Papworth for a lung resection (all cancer removed and it had not become malignant) however mum developed post operative pneumonia. Still she fights on.

while that was going on my wife developed Potts Disease (spinal TB) and spends 4 weeks in hospital. Has been unable to work since August and has to wear a spinal brace. In most respects she is well but in pain from het spine, alsp a bit frustrated.

Me I am Ok, thankfully sober, just a bit tired running around after everyone. Thanks to God and a simple 12 step programme I can cope and even smile. Things could be s lot worse.

I'm going to go against the grain and say that personally it was a good year. And may 2017 be even better.... for everyone.

I'm also hoping for improvements in 2017.

2016 hasn't been the worst year in recent times, but it has been an extension of the 2011-2015 period, and I certainly don't consider it remotely good; so, good riddance!

"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

I too won't miss 2016. It hasn't been a horrible year, but I didn't see as good.

On the other hand, there are a few things I can feel hopeful about -- with our marriage dissolution handled my ex- and I are on better terms and I did see my granddaughter for a half-hour a couple Sundays ago -- and no one close to me died so I guess I'll be alright.

I did buy too many dresses ... but I did have some fun in them!

It sounds like you actually had a pretty good one. I suppose if you didn't go (too badly) into debt it's all good!

2016 was OK for me and my family, with the notable exception of my mother-in-law dying of cancer a mere three months after being diagnosed. Other family things, work, and even my wife's attitude to my skirts are all going OK. But we are living in interesting times, so how 2017 will turn out is anybody's guess.

Best wishes to you all for good health and prosperity in 2017.
Keep on skirting,

Although I realize that a new year bringing new beginnings is somewhat arbitrary, I will admit that 2016 was particularly ratty. (a new word as I've used up my quota of curse words today)

Think I'd just like to coast through the next 12 months... I need to catch my breath.

2016 wasn't all that bad. We got to visit Fred that was a really fun time.

Yes that was very enjoyable, and our vacation we took back in July was very nice too. I hope we are able to do more of that this year.

2 weeks this year! YAY!

That visit I will remember for along time until at least as long as I have memory left.....
We had a lot of fun for those few days that we were able to steal away from the hum drum of every day life. I got to go to Colorado to visit with my daughter and family and was able to do it skirted. Whooopie!!  :hooray:
