My local temperature is around 70*F. I'm going to take down my
outside Christmas decorations. I usually wait until Jan 2nd but the
weather guessers are calling for 60+mph winds tomorrow and on
Monday the HIGH temps are to be in the mid-30's F. Drastic changes
like these cause many people severe health problems. I plan on
staying inside, out of the wind. So far no precipitation is expected.
It could happen if we get enough moisture in the air but for now that
isn't very likely.

All the best to each and everyone for a healthy and prosperous 2017 :D

De decorating the outside of the house with temps like that sounds good to me.
We leave our lights up for the 12 days after christmas. The unplug them from the timer.
Then we take them down shortly after the snow melts, which can be a matter on a few days, or like March. For us it only involves 4 strings of C9 lights and a Christmas wreath.
I'm going to take this opportunity to wish a happy new year to you. May 2017 be happy and blessed.

Am I reading this correct... mid negative 30?

Seems like an extreme Texas cold chill, I had to see for myself. Duncanville TX weather according to my google search is calling for a high in the 70's and an 80% chance of rain.

Hi Moon,

Naw, not the Negative 30's. I was taught, in school, to use a hyphen
after 'mid' when followed by a number. OK - that was 55+ years ago

In those circumstances, it would be better to write out the number in full, so as to avoid confusion,
ie: "mid-thirtes".

That works nicely, but most folks tend to use the numerical representation nowadays because it's shorter. In that case, one can use spaces to disambiguate things, although that can look confusing in the case where somebody is referring to, say, the mid- negative thirties, i.e. "mid- -30s". In any event, the placement of the hyphen is most important. Readability counts.

I had no problem discerning what Uncle Al was going on about, although much of that has to do with context. Texas may on very rare occasions experience temperatures in the -30 (F) range, but it's so rare that it'd make national news because Texans would be freezing to death by the scores.

Last night our guest count for our New Year knees-up was in the mid-thirties. It was a vintage evening, the dress-up theme being the historic kings & queens of England. I came nearest to being an unbifurcated male in that I wore a long 'cardinal's' robe which buttoned right down the front almost to the floor, just silver tights under it with dress slippers to look 'medieval'. I was supposed to be King John, who reigned from 1199 to 1216, so it was the 800th anniversary of his passing.

This morning our temperature was in the mid-thirties F. and having put head to pillow at 2AM I was up again at 6.30 to drive to Dublin for yet another galley-slaving session from 08.00 hours. Two deg. C is cold and worst on the hands. Back home again to pick up a granddaughter plus school friend and drive them to the airport for their flight back to Exeter, Devon, then back to the Homestead to sort out the battlefield left by our departing revelers, fortunately no dead bodies. They were all very much 'alive, alive oh' on their way home.

Having had half the 'Dynasty' here for the Christmas/New Year period all has now fallen quiet again. Oh how I wish I were in MY mid-thirties again..... :blue:
