The end is nigh

Post by crfriend »

T-minus ten hours for New Zealand (Hi Jack!), and one time-zone per hour east-to-west following that.

Things are getting strange. This, for instance, appeared in front of where I toil in Natick, Massachusetts today:
TheEndIsNear.jpg
Where do they get these types?

The funny part is that the bus-sized RV was towing a trailer that caught fire and completely burned before the local fire brigade could get there, but not before the wackos managed to uncouple and pull the RV forward. I'd call this a sign.

On another note, I had to verify a date to go sailing next Friday -- the first cruise of the year mind -- "due diligence" and whatnot -- and was told that the weather was more important than the end of the world (who'd want to be becalmed for that) and that we'd be, in all probability, fully-crewed.

So, here it is T-minus 09:45 and counting (I have a slow machine and it's taken this long to put the message together) for the Kiwis. Make that T-minus 09:40.

Cheers!

Never mind. After today (if there is one) they only have to change one number - to 2012 - and save the cost of a whole new livery. Or have I spoken too soon :(

But if only the righteous folks were taken it's unlikely I will know the difference as few of my friends are likely to qualify and I certainly don't. So I guess it's just business as usual then and I'll just have to manage another Monday morning...

Have fun,

Ian.

Guys,
Clearly you have misunderstood the "process". All of the worthy folks left on the 21st, we who are left behind, now get to deal with the end of the Earth as we know it. Hasn't anyone been wondering where all that rain is coming from? Is it time to build an ark?

Of course, the other nagging question is has anyone you know suddenly gone missing?

;)

Look at it this way. Somehwere, out in that vast ocean we call space, there is a world ending right at this moment.
Does it have intelligent life on it! That we cannot not know. Of course I'm sure there is such a thing on our world either!
But the most recent domeday predictor has predicted the same thing at least once before, in 1994. Sure glad he wasn't right back then.
But that would have saved me several operations and medical problems that have slowed my life down, somewhat.
Yesterday was very slow as I underwent a capsule endoscopy. They had me swallow a pill sized camera to look inside my GI track. Compared to most tests I've had it was nothing. Just a day of enforced non-activity.
But today I'm still alive and kicking.
When 2012 comes, we will all realise that the Mayans simply got bored with writing their calander, and had gone as far ahead in time as they thought it was worth while doing. No domesday! They just didn't feel like writing anymore.
Shame in a way. All those dramatic movie events will never happen! Shucks!
But, maybe it's a good thing that real life doesn't happen like the movies. Even on Doctor Who, my God! We are always fighting off aliens to the last man!

Something make me think that Mr. Lederle intended to include a "not" in that last sentence.

In any event, when I start comtemplating this sort of nonsense I always come back 'round to Monty Python and the very memorable Meaning of Life -- and in this case it's the Galaxy Song. Look for it on YouTube, I am positive they have a clip of it on there. The numbers even work out to be "close enough". Brilliant work.

Ancient cultures and civilisations believed almost universally in cycles, so when the calendar "runs out" one just loops back to the beginning and starts afresh. (I wonder if it's a "Moebius Calendar"?)

One thing we are pretty certain of at this point is that the Earth will come to an end at some point: the astrophysicists are convinced, and their data are convincing, and that'll happen when the Sun runs out of hydrogen and swells outward as it starts to fuse stuff that's heavier than helium to where it engulfs the orbit of the Earth. That, as they say, will be that. However, it's not slated to happen for a few (billion) years yet, so I am not personally worried.

In any event, I'm glad that Dennis' photo-op went well and that he's hopefully on the mend.

Sorry Carl,

I've had similar photo ops and they don't actually mend you. It's to give the doctor a chance to see what might need to be done.

We hope he found something he can fix or nothing bad at all.

I know you really knew all that, but since I have some experience of the subject, thought I'd make sure.

You're right! I left out the word NOT in my post. I am NOT sure there is intelligent life on this planet either!
And to skip:
Yes I did proof read it, but it just got past me.
To bad there isn't an editor to catch all my mistakes.
Oh, well.
The world is not ending tomorrow or the next day either, nor in 2012. On 12/21/2112 we will wake up the next day and still have all the problems in the world still facing us and be no closer to answers then we are right now.

For anyone worried about the end of the world coming this week or in 2012 or whenever, don't lose your hair, (if you have any), just go on with your life as it is...OR there's always planes that will fly you to Guyana and some grape cool-aid. :faint:

Talking about losing one's hair.....A friend gave a balding mutual acquaintance some sterling advice: She suggested he paint rabbits on his bald pate....They'd look like hares from a distance!!

Just watched a movie called "2012". The new date is Dec 21st, 2012. No worries, they are building huge arks in Tibet and we can buy tickets for 1B Euros each.... just charge it to my CC.
