Sorry to hear of your plight, Ziggy, but given what I've hear of what South Africa has become I'd say that your trip could have wound up a fair bit worse! Glad to see you're back in the UK.

Ian -- Thanks for the snicker vis-a-vis the politicians, but I think that if we put all the potentially-offensive politicos into the naughty-word filter we'd not have a lot of names left over that we could use! I can think of a few choice ones I'd like to add, but shall refrain. ;)

Yes it has one of the world's highest homicide rates.

Many wealthy whites have fled elsewhere such as the UK & Australia

Most middle class whites live in gated communities as my Grandma happens to.

I only ventured into downtown Durban twice & well second time I got robbed so is it any wonder people flee or live in gated communities.

Yes I know the crime rate is due to apartheid & the dismantling of

I'll add I never agreed with aparthied

Ziggy,

Some folks might have needed to add that, but I very much doubt whether anyone here would have imagined for a moment that you would be pro-apartheid.

Bummer being robbed though.

Have fun,

Ian.
