Something I found online many years ago. Seemed relevant. Whether a legit occurrence or a staged prank, it still demonstrates the double standard(s) that exist(s).

It's happened to me - I joined in the joke by commenting that if the picture went on the Web, they would have to pay royalties to Marks & Sparks. [Slang name for U.K. department store which is well-known for selling men's underwear.]

"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

Actually, having women as bodyguards may be the best defense for MIS.

I've had my skirt lifted many times, mostly by guys, but several times by women.
I get my bra back band flicked by guys (the immature ones), and I have been cupped a few times which is going too far for my liking - I have had my butt smacked - which I can handle - if its done in a cheeky way, and my butt grabbed which I do not like.

Mostly though my friends (and acquaintances too) have my back if anyone lifts my skirt or grabs a feel, and they come to my defence instantly - which is great. Strangers do too.

There are only a few idiots and perves out there. Most people are just great. The only danger of mini skirts is the upskirt issue - and it can't be avoided - I've found in reality you will show your knickers to onlookers because its just impossible in some situations that it will not happen. Its just part of wearing a short skirt - it will happen. I don't care, its not intentional and is only for a second, for instance getting out of a booth seat at a cafe - or getting in/out of your car, escalators, going up stairs in a crowd - it can happen, but its no reason to not enjoy wearing a skirt. I prefer my legs out.

I've had my kilt lifted before, usually by girls, no one has repeated that when I'm skirted. One good thing about social distancing is that people now keep back. Upskirted, yes, but just have nice panties on

I can understand the hazards of unintentionally giving the world a glimpse of your underwear when you have a short skirt on, as you say hazards are all around with sitting down, going up stairs, in & out of cars and even the weather, mates as well, guys 'depants' guys on lads holidays for a laugh and so if they have an easy target of a skirt then it'll definitely happen but to be upskirted by strangers is a form of abuse really, you wouldn't expect a random stranger to come up to you and undo your jacket because they want to see what shirt you're wearing!

As for the natural hazards, well life' too short for dull underwear anyway, lol.

yep - but there's always folk who are always looking... usually some creepy guy/group of guys looking but pretending not to be looking. They're always looking down my front or up my skirt, from a distance and then up close too, and they'll hang around too for a good look, especially if there's more on show. It does go with the territory, I keep an eye on it, and its there, but I have become used to it and don't let it put me off anymore. But its always there. Its the same as wearing high heels - everybody looks to the sound of your heels. Not everyone is a perv, but there are a good few that are looking....

that said - the down sides of dressing how I feel are outweighed by the upsides and freedom I can enjoy.

cheers

So true :D Generally we don't discuss our underwear here, but with the way skirts are, exposure is going to happen sooner or later, but like most women, just take it in your stride 8) It's probably why increasing numbers of women opt for trousers / jeans so the whole sitting demurely and being careful can be avoided and being able to sit like a man, lol...

But the variety of skirts, hosiery, shoes and accessories is more interesting than jeans. If a guy is really that keen to check me out I'd rather be spoken to than have my skirt looked up... so far, the face mask has been scaring them off, lol

So, the thread had ventured into the weeds with references to undergarments. That said, allow me share a non-undie story from my blog.

About a year ago, I was at a club, rocking an awesome 15″ Gap or Ralph Lauren chino skirt. I found myself speaking with a group of three or four females when one of them rather abruptly asks me, “what do you have on under your skirt?”

Now, this isn’t the first time I’ve been asked that question, but it was the first time in a long time. Of course, the s**t would have hit the fan were a male to ask her that question, but rather than pointing this out, I simply quipped, “Dare to ask, dare to look.” At this, she startled and then indignantly exclaimed that she would not! Logically, I followed up with something like, then why did you ask if you didn’t want to know? This kind of thing doesn't much bother me because I embrace such minor mental skirmishes as teaching moments that provoke introspection and contemplation of societal double standards. I'm content to open one mind at a time.

What struck me most was her display of indignation that would make one think I had just propositioned her for sex. How is it that she can lead with inappropriateness and then be bothered by a cheeky retort? I get that for many decades men treated women like objects, but I would expect those experiences to sensitize women to such behavior. Ultimately, though, I think it builds the case that sexuality is a human trait, that women and men are both humans, and that humans are pretty much all alike. When all the cultural constructs are stripped away, there really isn’t much difference between men and women. Maybe that is why so many men are afraid of wearing a skirt—because it will just affirm outwardly what they already know deep down. And, now that I think about it, that was the underlying argument of the women’s liberation movement: if men and women are equal, women had every right to wear pants. But women who dared to wear pants in defiance of sociocultural norms were branded as ball-busters, lesbians, etc. Similarly, men who dare to wear skirts must combat similar regard as sissy or weak. Skirted men are like exotic fish where observers have the urge to tap the glass to see how the fish responds.

A few months after this event, I was again at the same club and speaking with two females. Something in the conversation prompted a third to disclose that she was a municipal police officer (and although the club was not in that city, in this state municipal police have extended jurisdiction for the entire county in which the city lies, which did include the county of this particular club). No fan of anglo (i.e. white) cops, I excused myself from the conversation and went on my way. Over the course of the evening—and it should be noted, as she consumed more and more alcohol—it seemed as though she was on a mission to prove to me that she was not the I'm-right-you're-wrong, thump-your-skull type. Eventually, and with all possible irony, I said, "girl, quit trying to get up my skirt!" She responded that she would get up my skirt if she wished and then reached under my mini and grabbed my junk. It took me a few months to resolve my feelings about this. On the one hand, I found it funny; on the other hand, I found it objectionable; on still another hand I found it somewhat flattering. At the same time it suddenly became very real to me what American women have had to deal with (and still deal with?) I might be in an insulated geography, and as far as I know this conduct does not befall women around me, but that is by no means indicative of the entire world. In my own lifetime I have heard stories of airline attendants' being constantly groped, pinched, and catcalled by male passengers. But what really, really bothered me about my insignificant event was that she was a cop and that what she had done was technically misdemeanor "physical harassment" which in this state simply means touching, striking, or otherwise subjecting a person to harassing, annoying, or alarming physical contact. Had any other female been so forward....well, we probably would have left together (and who can forget such famous scenes from Crocodile Dundee). But here was a po-po doing the very thing for which she would arrest a man had the roles been reversed. And this is where my sense of violation really rested, that is, in the hypocrisy of it. My sense of violation was a moral one. Part of me wanted to hold her accountable while the other part of me felt it appropriate to overlook the inebriated indiscretion. Like I said, it simmered on the back-burner for a few months until I decided to just let it stay in the past. It wasn't really that big of a deal. And this, too, opened my eyes to the mental deliberations that women experience throughout their lives. It really was an eye-opening and sobering experience.

Yes, on the one hand, people need to get over themselves. There are more important things in life, and what, is this still the Victorian era?

But there is a technique for demure ingress and egress from vehicles and booths.

Hmm... A veiled threat. That one needs to become an ex-cop.

In some jurisdictions, had it laid a finger on you it would be called battery. However, since it was cop-vs-Little-People the outcome would have been preordained. I would likely have collared one of my friends as a witness and vacated the premises, with instructions to others to delay the troublemaker until I was safely away.
