On Australia's ABC radio a number of years ago we had a doctor who specialised in diagnosing ailments in people long dead. In one case he diagnosed diabetes from a picture of a man wearing a suit. The splatter of urine had affected the bottom of his trousers and gave a characteristic pattern and colour shift. True story.

Maybe we should all sit to pee. Apparently a lot of men think that would be too womanly (meaning degrading). Once you close the cubicle door, who takes enough of an interest to try and work out what you are doing in there? But anything womanly is of course to be shunned by Real Men™. Present company excepted, of course.
Keep on skirting,

Nah. It's just too easy to "stand and deliver". I'll use a stall if I've got on a very complex ensemble, but for the simple stuff I prefer to be economical with the time.

Some 30 or 40 years ago I saw a German TV-program about this subject. They put a paper on the floor around the bowl. The size was around a square meter. After every male pee operation, they replaced the paper with a new sheet. With a chemical stuff they "developed" the splatters. No one could pee without splattering but the intensity was depending on the method of peeing. Straight in the puddle gave the most splatters and tangential to the side of the bowl, just above water level the least.
When I was living on my own, I sat doing my business, small or big. Now with a household of 3 plus visitors, I'm too lazy to clean the seat every time and do the peeing standing up, tangential against the side of the bowl. As a hobby woodworker, my eye-hand co-ordination is still good. ;)

...and I quote a little legend found on the inside of a loo door...'Our aim is to keep this toilet clean..Your aim will help!'

A German friend who renovated a house in Weinsberg, near Heilbronn in Baden-Wuttenburg installed a proper stand-up pee facility in a bathroom. Otherwise in private houses I always sit.

My current physical state negates any choice.
Sitting is just so much easier and hygienic.

I can't explain it , I have no problem wearing a skirt when I am at Home Depot buying lumber tools etc, or when I am at a food market . But for some reason if I am in a thrift or clothing store looking at skirts while I am wearing a skirt. I am all nervous.

Old Salt....Perhaps you feel you may have an embarassing discussion with the sales staff...... if you choose to buy an item , .... or ask a question....
This is a reference to the suggestion that we do not know what others are thinking..... this issue has been mentioned before....
perhaps the face to face purchasing of our clothes is more unnerving than actually wearing our chosen garment.

I went out in a summer skirt today ,which to me looked more " feminine " , than those I normally wear..... for some reason I was not my normal
confident self. ........ perhaps I am trying to push the boundaries a little further....... I have only just successfully tried to wear a dress on the street.

I am considering another new style of skirt.... perhaps the fear is what others may think .......perhaps I am just not in in a confident mood , where
I have my known requirement of my comfort zone... I speak a " man in a skirt " ...with years of experience .....perhaps I am just lacking the energy
to be alert and streetwise ......weeladdie

You are not alone in this. I have also no problem doing my errands in a skirt. I even went to thrift shops skirted but I did not buy any clothing. There is a treshold that keeps me from browsing through skirts. I even had a small tape ruler with me just for the case I had the guts to check the skirts. Maybe next time or when I have shorts on. I'm not nervous, I just stay away from the racks. ;)

JFDI as a former boss of mine used to say. Learn to control your nerves, and try to make jokes with the staff, like holding up a skirt from the rack and ask if they think it would suit...

Maybe it's me, but I think that a confident demeaner helps, even though you might be bricking it inside, once you've got over that, it gets easier.

I was a bit like that until I started wearing skirts everywhere and wasn't going to miss out on looking in charity shops. There are some nice people working in charity shops (like SkirtsDad) and many volunteer their time.
Also, it actually solves some awkward conversations when you wear a skirt as they know it for you and avoids the comments like:
"Oh, that will make someone happy" - I just nodded in agreement, thinking to myself that it make me very happy.
"That is a very cute skirt" - I totally agreed.

When wearing a skirt the conversations went differently:
"Are you looking for something in particular?"
"Yes, I am looking for a short skirt like this one" - pointing to the one I was wearing.
"Oh, right!" and called the other assistant "Can you show this gentleman to the short skirts please"

The weirdest one came from an elderly assistant, after purchasing a skirt:
"Thank you Maam" - caught me off guard and I didn't respond. Here is me with a beard and hairy legs. I believe she was trying to be nice, probably thinking I was a failed female impersonator.

Having changed to better underwear, it's less likely to come out now  Longer skirts also help

Getting better with practise, though I'll never be as graceful as Mark when it comes to demure heels, perfect pins and lovely pantyhose. I'm still working on my image to make it as polished as his. Got a new royal blue textured skirt with a ribbed effect, fits like a glove! Pics soon

I have no problems with buying a skirt when skirted and have visited several charity shops and local stores while so attired. In fact at my more local charity shop they were surprised when I went in wearing jeans once. MOH was with me so didn't have much choice. Luckily she was in another part of the shop when the comment was made and I had a brief quiet word to let them know the situation.
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.
