Pleats are a pain the the....
OTOH some people (otherwise good friends) are uncomfortable with a plain old skirt.
OTOOH I'm not comfortable sitting on some strange furniture with my birthday suit.
Therefore, I wear a plain straight skirt or even a pencil skirt as an under-kilt!
Still do the 'swoop and scoop' though and may be getting better at it.
Could possibly just keep a Thrifty-Kilt in the car and wrap-on, wrap-off as circumstances dictate.

I find pleats no trouble at all if I can sit on the edge of the chair and then slide back.
Otherwise, I just hold the back of the skirt to my thighs while sitting. No big deal.
And I find the swish while walking to be pleasant.
