First Skirt
First Skirt
Hi,
Was looking for some advice. Looking to buy my first skirt.
Was thinking an above the knee (not a mini skirt) cargo or denim skirt.
Would either of those go well with a white or grey tee and a pair of sandals or trainers ??

Welcome Gareth.
Stick 'em on and look at yerself in a full-length mirror. If you like what you see, Go For It!
I'm sure at less than half my age you've already learned what rules are meant for.......

The important thing is to get accustomed to your look in a skirt, and then try various combinations to discover your style.
Thrift shops are a great place to buy various styles as experiments.
Courage, conviction, nerve, verve, dash, panache, guts, nuts, balls, gall, élan, stones, whatever. Get some and get skirted.

Welcome to the café and when you get access to it browse the looks section for examples. You get access by submitting posts.
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

Re: First Skirt
Colorwise the skirt and T will go together. Being both cargo and denim skirts are relatively informal, they should go ok with running shoes. Nice sandals go with almost anything. Even very masculine sandals will go with casual wear.
As previous poster, I think Kirbstone, said, the only thing that really matters is how the outfit looks to you in a full-length mirror.
As a member, you can go on Pics and Looks. Check out other fellows' looks and think about whether or not you could see yourself looking like them.
Most of all, have fun with this. We're not so much changing the world as freeing ourselves to express and be our genuine selves.

Re: First Skirt
Hi Gareth,
At this moment in Australia you cannot go past this Kathmandu skirt on sale right now:
http://www.kathmandu.com.au/womens/clot ... women.html
I purchased both black and grey in size 14 to suit 36" waist after trying both size 12 and size 14 in the store.
(I have bought size 12 skirts from the USA so the sizing seems a little smaller than USA sizing.)
This skirt has all of the aspects one would look for in a men's skirt:
Drab plain colours
Knee length
Slash front pockets
Rear pockets
Side zip pocket
Belt Loops
Zip fly on the correct mens side.
Stretch fabric so your stride is not impeded without a break in the hem.
Easy case, non creasing fabric.
Form and style that will not blow up in the wind
Strangely these skirts are hidden in the women's racks so they are still on sale.
If they put them in the men's rack they may already be sold out.
Cheers, David

David R,
Thanks for that Kathmandu link. I've ordered a grey one, as I also like the 'masculine' features of that skirt.
