To each his own but..... ummm probably not for me. To short for my liking, and if I am going to have to pay the social tax of occasional snares and teasing I want to make sure Im getting "my moneys worth" by wearing a regular skirt.

That's pretty much how I feel.

Here is another variation - really just a sports skirt with shorts attached - but detachable - I can not see the point myself - just buy seperate items. The skirt is quite nice but I wouldn't fancy flashing the bright orange shorts.

And there is more ........ peplum shorts/skorts where the skirt is shorter than the shorts - seems crazy but could be an option for cyclists who want greater modesty in bike shorts.

Many of the "Skirts" I have purchased recently have built in shorts inside. What's the point?? I usually just cut out the short and I have a skirt that is 17-18" and is quite comfortable. The Nike Golf Dri Fit ones are some of my favorites. The plaid ones are especially comfortable and do well in my southern climate because they dry so fast after hiking some.

I recently bought a pleated mini skirt from Australia that I really like. It will be great for hiking. Lightweight, pleated for flexibility, looks a lot like a utility kilt although a little short for some here. This skirt was mentioned on this site somewhere so I checked it out. Arrived yesterday and I hope to hike with it before the weather gets too cold. See the link below for a picture and description.

My Post - I bought two of these:

I bought two of these one in GREY and the other in NAVY.
The NAVY was not in stock but I made an inquiry about when it would be
and lo and behold they had one in NAVY XL so I worked a deal buying
a GREY and then substituting the NAVY. Shipping time fantastic - seller
is what ever an Australian term for a "stones throw" out side of Melbourne
arrived in 8 days to my door.
Pleased with that I went and bid/bought the GREY one.

Critique: The GREY one is a real dark GREY and not the Khaki light grey
as pictured.
Fabric is: Polyester, Viscose, Elastic
The fit is fine in the waist with just a tad bit of elastic - note zipper in
back center.
The skirt fits somewhere between an "A" frame skirt and a pencil skirt -
it is not a running skirt but will not inhibit long strides like a pencil skirt would.
Front apron has 8 non-functional/cosmetic apt - 1 inch (2.54cm) buttons -
looking at updating the buttons to shinny brass or chrome.
On the sides are three pleats - knife edges facing rear.
Belts on the waist are just for show - no adjustments.
Since I like my skirts short these are ideal - no modesty issues - perfect !

Now for the NAVY one same fitting comments as the GREY with exceptions
the Waist has about an inch less room fits tighter than the GREY.
And the pleats on the left side are facing the wrong way relative to the
right side - might check to see if a tailor can fix without a large investment.
As with the GREY skirt will update the buttons to embellish the look.

THE EBAY DEAL
Each skirt - AU $11.99 + 14.10 S&H = AU $26.09
US $ conversion - $9.31 + 10.95 S&H = US $21.26

With 8 day S&H this was an outstanding deal.
My Thanks to Heidi at thedepot89 !

Oh as for pictures go to ebay and look up eBay item number: 321334661011

The skirts are holding up well - laundered a couple of times and best to remove
from the dryer while a bit damp and hung on a skirt hanger to avoid having to
iron the pleats to something sharp.
I removed the button detailing - I like the plain flat look and the buttons were
a nuisance wearing a belt bag (fanny bag) getting in the way.

I sent the seller a note and inquired about getting one in Brown sadly they are
planning to discontinue these - get them while they have stock.
"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

What size did you order, and what does it measure across the waistband? Might try a couple, though it's shorter than I usually go.

Back on the subject of skorts, on a visit to my local thrift store, the only 2 things that seemed acceptable were both skorts. One is a stretchy sporty number that may stay as a skort, interesting linked chain pattern on dark blue background, the other is stretch denim, but the liner was out of the same material! Who could wear that snug against their nether regions? That got cut out, (took some doing, it is very strongly made) now I have a denim near mini, fits well.

I just received a skort from 6PM.com. It's a Nike golf skort, purple. BUT...It's two separate pieces, the skirt and the spandex short. Its a bit short on me but fits well. I like it.

In my case I ordered the size 16.
Trying to replicate the size chart from the ebay auction page:

Measurements /size........8.....10.....12.....14.....16

Waist.........................79....85....88......99.....99?

Hip...........................85....92....95......98.....104

Length.......................41....42...42.5...43.5...43.5

Measurements are in cm centimeters (2.54cm =s 1 inch)

The size 16 fits Waist = 39 inches (tight/snug) Hip = 41 inches Length = 17 inches (perfect for me)

This is a SKIRT and not a SKORT !

Give me the freedom of a proper skirt any day. I've never had skorts and never will.

Just bought a new skort, even though these types of garments are not my faves, I got a great discount on this one from 6PM.com. It's by Jack Wolfskin, a German company that has been making outdoor apparel and backpacs, etc, for over 30 years. This one impressed me for ths fit as well as the light but durable fabric. Very well designed garment. Two hand pockets and a zipper pocet. Unfortunately it has left fasten and zip, but I'm used to that.

I got one by accident once at a thrift store. It was easy to change it to a decent skirt with a little scissors work. If you get one that's a good buy and looks good, don't be afraid to repair it so it's no longer a skort.

Considered it but most skorts are so short I'd just as soon keep the internal short. This is probably the longest hemmed and longest shorted one I have acquired, and it's still just above the knee. But it's a good looking outdoor garment.
