That dress happens to fit me perfectly. I am not totally flat chested, and one of the dress' reviewers noted that the upper bodice does not adequately contain her large breasts. The "cup" of the upper bodice is quite shallow. Also the waist stretches to accommodate my gut comfortably.

So looks are deceiving.

We have different tastes. I admire your New Year's Eve outfit with the jacket and floral skirt. However, I would not wear a floral skirt, and I guess you would not wear my dress. To each his own.

Just before reading this post, I was looking out the window at next door's kids playing in the garden. The boy was wearing the usual - shorts and tee shirt, his sister was wearing a dress which hung from her shoulders. I though then how much more comfortable a garment like that would be. All my life I've dressed in two halves, top and bottom.
I have an Egyptian gallabayah which is shoulder to floor and very comfortable - and no underwear required (just don't stand in front of a bright light  )

My skirts are no shorter than 5 cm (2 inches) above the knee. When I sit down I simply brush against the back of the skirt downwards to make sure the whole length of the skirt is extended.

I noticed that as of this moment the picture JohnH posted has been viewed 200 times. That suggests that it is a predominately hetro crowd around here. :)

I understand how the feel of the flowing fabric gives the wearer much
freedom. I get that when I wear my night-shirts.

If I were to wear a 'dress', it would need to be similar to a jumper made
like a pair of 'bib' overalls. This, combined with a regular shirt, would
be more to my liking and not have that 'feminine' look.

IMO, "Frills" may be OK under the 'dress/skirt' but not for the
general male appearance. We (men) are not ready to push that
envelope yet. We're still trying to push the skirt envelope but we're
like the 'inchworm' and 'inching' along. We'll get there, but I think the
snails are catching up to us

As far as 'sitting in short skirts' goes, I don't worry about that. My skirts
and kilts are mid-knee length or slightly below the knee. I don't feel
comfortable in anything shorter. Plus, the over-all appearance is that
of a kilt, which most people regard as a male garment. Thus - no aggravating
questions, threats or otherwise.

This is my $.02 worth

I'm doing my best to advance the cause of skirt wearing by men. The only time that I don't wear a skirt is when I go to church or a job interview. I am completely comfortable in wearing an above the knee skirt publicly. However I feel that with something that short I have to wear underpants. Now the next step is to wear a long dress so that I can dispense with wearing any underwear.

Everybody has his own tastes. I cannot see myself wearing a jumper. I would much rather wear my halter-top dress instead of a jumper. In fact, I would like to get some more halter-top dresses. A jumper adds more layers of material by the time one wears a shirt with it, and here in the Dallas area we are going to have highs about 40 deg C (104 deg F).

I just need to lose the gut and get a well-defined waist.

I don't know what you're thinking of when you speak of a "Jumper", to me, a Jumper on the front of the top half just looking like a pair of Farmer John Overalls. A squared patch with pockets and 2 over the shoulder straps that snap in front and are sewn to the top of the skirt in back. My jumper is torn or I'd show you a pic...I'll see if I can find one like mine in one of my Bluestreet catalogs. :D :D

In terms of skirt length, I like the longer skirts. If the environmental conditions were perfect, I would probably wear one all the time. However, the realities of summer suggest that knee length is a better approach. Hence, I wear knee length kilts for the summer unless I know I am going to be sitting in close company for extended periods of time. It's too much bother trying to keep covered up when sitting with people directly across from me. In these cases, shorts work better if it's a hot day, if it's cooler then longer skirts are my preference.

Have you ever noticed that women have more sense than guys when it comes to selecting clothing? Most guys dress year-round in long pants. Women choose shorts, short skirts, long skirts, dresses, long pants, etc. as the situation demands. As skirt "aficionados", we tend to try to fit that round peg into every square hole whether or not it fits.

My advice is to plan for the event and dress appropriately!

I have skirts that range from 42" to 15" in length. However I rarely wear anything shorter than 20" for sitting in public, not so much because of how much skin comes into contact with the seat, but because it is relatively difficult not to display next weeks laundry in a very short skirt. It is not just a matter of learning from the ladies, when driving in a 15" skirt I can see my underwear if the skirt even begins to ride up

As for regulating my temperature by hemline... My Macabi (long length) is one of the coolest, lightest and most comfortable garments I own, whereas knee length kilts are often too warm for comfort in summer, so length is not the only factor. The mini's are fabulous for comfort and walking but just too revealing for use in social situations when I expect to be seated (and Carole is really not keen on me wearing those in public anyway).

Have fun,

Ian.

One would have thought that would have been second nature; however, seeing it put forward here indicates that it doesn't necessarily seem to be.

I actively choose my attire based on what the weather forecast is going to be for the day, what I'm going to be doing, and who I'm going to be doing it with. It's very rarely that I wear my minis out and about in public, so that leaves me with below-the-knee looks using light fabric for summer months and my very long skirts for colder weather. Selection of legwear also plays into this, and I also choose that based on weather and situation; it makes no sense whatsoever to be wearing heavy tights when the outdoor temperature approaches that of body-temperature!

Milfmog makes a wonderful point that in many cases the selection of fabric can be much more important than the selection of length.

Most of my skirts are shorter than 15", so I try to be careful when sitting. It is true, your legs do touch whatever you are sitting on, but I always check to make sure it is clean first. (Good idea, regardless of what you are wearing.) I have never had a problem with "sticking" to anything; maybe its because most indoor environments are air-conditioned, so the outside temperature is not any big deal. I always wear underwear, and I figure if anyone really tries to look up my skirt its not that big of a deal. And driving in a very short skirt is quite comfortable; I am not sure how anyone could have a problem with that.

At 15" my underwear is almost not under anything  Certainly going without underwear with a skirt that short is not an option in public.

I don't have a problem with driving in a miniskirt, the car is my private space, and agree that the comfort of a short skirt is great. I do, however, find myself feeling uncomfortable socially in skirts more than a couple of inches above the knee.

Have fun,

Ian.

I only wear short skirts, but would never wear anything so short that I couldn't sit on it, i.e. there must be enough material at the back to fold under my seat as I sit.
This means that the front of such a skirt will almost reach my knees seated, which is fine.
No problem with a kilt length, of course.
