Re: Man wearing skirt set on fire

Thanks for the update Al. It's very heartening to see such support given to someone who is "different" and belies some of the stupid and ignorant comments that "he had it coming". I still, sadly, believe that the perpetrator will have a very small penalty applied, due to the fact...

Re: Mystery girl

We'd love to take you up on that offer, however the test drive should be before the few pints. I'm a cheap drunk and could, conceivably, do more damage than your infant son all those decades ago :P There's a cottage just 10 minutes walk to the sea and 10 minutes drive to Dingle that we've seen adver...

Re: Half Slips

One other thing I've noticed about slips is that most tend to be straight, meaning that they aren't much bigger around at the bottom than they are at the top. So if my slip is much longer than just above my knees then my legs feel cramped when I move. Yes, I know what you mean. I have a cotton slip...

Re: Man wearing skirt set on fire

Many comments were getting out of hand, with emotions on both sides getting heated. I have put a comment up under the pseudonym of "Da priest". I just gave a reasonable assertion as I saw it.

Re: Hi from a newbie

Welcome to our group of bright sparks who have decided to challenge conventional wisdom. As Caultron said, the fear of a reaction is far greater than the reality, so get out there confidently.

Mystery girl

I see, with interest, that the girl found in a distressed and disoriented state in Dublin is not a teenager, but is 25 and Australian. It seems to be, from the bit we see here, that she has a fair degree of intellectual retardation, so how in hell did she get there? She certainly had the Gardaí stum...

Re: Running Skirt

Running? For me only if I've slightly misjudged the crossing amongst the traffic. This reminds me of when I was in a room overlooking a pedestrian crossing near Trajan's Forum in Rome, in 1982. A nun, in traditional habit, looked both ways before scooping her skirt well above her knees, then dashed...

Re: fairly full denim skirt

I feel no guilt hijacking the thread I started, after all, everything relevant has been said previously on the skirt, it may as well go seriously off topic. The watch in question is a Kienzle mechanical fob watch given to me on my 21st birthday, so it's now at least 44 years old. With a fairly hefty...

Re: fairly full denim skirt

Good apart from the pockets, I say. They look too small, That is my initial judgement, however it may not be too difficult a job for someone who does clothing alterations to put side seam pockets of decent capacity in to the skirt. This could free up those front pockets for penknife, bush style fob...

Lou Reed dead.

Well, Lou Reed has finally succumbed after a life lived dangerously. It's remarkable he reached 71 considering how many contemporaries went earlier. He was a great influence to later musicians in the rock genre. He in music and Warhol in art were closely linked.

Re: When Windows was fun

Another time waster I had on Win 95 was Sim City. I have just looked at the current edition on Google and the rendering now is incredible compared to the grid pattern used then. I'm tempted, though I don't know that I have the time that would be entailed. I spend more time, now, either here or on Fa...

Re: Gardening

I have been busy in the various vegetable gardens lately and the tomato plants are bolting along nicely now, with the hot weather. These were just tiny seedlings when I put them in three weeks ago. Extending the bed has been a chore with the removal of Kikuyu runners. The Kikuyu is a grass that coul...

A great Aussie whodunnit series

Every Friday I watch, with great enjoyment, the Miss Fisher murder mysteries, set in the 20s, which keeps one on tenterhooks wondering who committed the murder. The plots are up there with the best of the English ones. I hope, for the suspense fans, that it will be exported to channels overseas. Ano...
