Re: What is civilisation?

Kenneth Clark, in concluding the last chapter of his book Civilisation , wrote: I believe that order is better than chaos, creation better than destruction. I prefer gentleness to violence, forgiveness to vendetta. On the whole I think that knowledge is preferable to ignorance, and I am sure that hu...

Re: Greetings!

Hello, Inertia, welcome to the cafe.

Wouldn't more people look better if they wore clothes they *liked* rather than wearing necessarily what's "in fashion"?

Re: Comment is Free

A librarian tried to track down the author of that wonderful little poem. http://en.allexperts.com/q/Poetry-678/REAL-author.htm He or she said, "The problem with these little "inspirational poems" is that they are written by unknown/obscure authors. Other people take great liberty wit...

Re: What did *you* wear "out and about" today? part2

I wore my Douglas tartan Sportkilt (with a gray t-shirt) today. While my wife and I were shopping we saw a guy in a black Utilikilt. Encouragement all around.

Re: A negative experience

I'm glad you're okay, Pythos. I had a negative experience last Sunday morning, walking back to campus (I'm taking some summer classes) from church services. I was wearing a white Jeanstar skirt, white t-shirt with the college logo, athletic shoes and a Kangol cap. The style is like this picture, but...

Re: Roll call!!!

I try to read what's going on on a regular basis, but my summer school is keeping me busy, and I don't often feel like I have anything to contribute.

The M sounds good. Thanks for the information and the tip on ordering a couple sizes at once.

Re: another Mountain Kilt for me

The Magdalena wrap skirt looks really nice. What size did you get, M or L, for that one? I couldn't get the size chart button to work.

Re: Clicking on links in threads

Hi Donald,
I use Firefox 2.0 as my browser, and I right-click on a button or link and select "Open link in new tab", and it works for me. Look to see if your browser has a similar feature. [Edited to get the wording right]

Re: What are we wearing as we post, part deux

Gray tshirt, camo skirt.

I found the knee length camo skirt handy for changing out of my swim trunks at the pool yesterday. After toweling off I pulled on the skirt, then pulled off the trunks. During my last vacation to Hawaii I also found skirts quite handy for changing clothes at the beach.

Re: Curiosity?

Here's my two cents: Do you have friends that wear kilts/skirts with you? My main question is do any of you have friends or piers that have and wear skirts/kilts out in public? A couple of my high school students wore kilts occasionally to school a few years back. I was actually encouraged by their ...

thanks

Thanks for sharing your experiences and feelings. One feels what one feels, but sometimes can't explain why. It's hard to live with that uncertainty without love. But with love, I hope you both will find your way forward together. Welcome to the Cafe.

rethinking why I wear skirts

I though I understood my reasons for wearing kilts and skirts: comfort, wanting more ways to express myself, and wanting freedom to wear what I liked. But my son, who's 16, is really uncomfortable about my unbifurcated attire. I wasn't aware of his discomfort until I heard about it from someone else...

crossing the aisle / Mick Jagger

http://falsedawn.blogspot.com/jaggerhydeshelley.gif Mick Jagger reading his eulogy for Brian Jones, July 5, 1969, Hyde Park London, two days following Jones' death. I believe this is the reference to Mick Jagger in a white dress mentioned in this article, http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/femai...
