Re: Night shirt

I went over to wearing nightshirts and nightgowns years ago and have never looked back. Vastly more comfortable than traditional pyjamas and the like. Same here. The decider for me was that the pyjama cord belt was getting tight around my 'middle age' expanding waist :( I tried a man's nightshirt b...

Re: Sightings "in the wild"

Last Monday in Morrisons (supermarket), Wells. There was a guy wearing a knee-length black skirt with black tights. I didn't get a chance to speak to him, but later mentioned it to my wife who said she thought she'd seen him as well. I was wearing a tartan patterned knee-length skirt, which has been...

Re: Sightings "in the wild"

Wednesday outside Cabot Circus in Bristol. Saw a man wearing a skirt while riding a bike. It wasn't causing him any trouble considering the speed he was going at. Also, near Temple Meads station I spotted what appeared to be a man (some women made a decent job of looking like men, intentionally or n...

Re: Men in skirts and contra dance

Was that the partner of the American caller who was at Alcester on the 4th of October? If so he taught me some spin flourishes and wasn't phased by me wearing a skirt. Nobody said anything negative but I got the feeling that guys wearing twirly skirts isn't common at Alcester. Yes, it was. They cut...

Re: Men in skirts and contra dance

It also works the other way, as what ever skirt I wear, people assume it is a kilt since a man, me is wearing it, and they do not want to offend me. Twice in the past two weeks I've been asked if the denim knee-length skirt I was wearing is a kilt. One was a German monk over from a monastery in Wal...

Re: A gender neutral guide to twirly skirts for contra dance

I should try that at square dancing sometime, the women do it all the time, largely because there's almost always more women than men. I have been offered the opportunity perhaps twice at dances, as it stand's I don't know exactly how to do it, but I'm told it's not that difficult to switch. There ...

Re: A gender neutral guide to twirly skirts for contra dance

An interesting read which deserves more publicity. Perhaps I should print it out and post it on our dance club's notice board. I always dance in a skirt because its so much more fun and comfortable. At the Bristol contra last week there were four of us guys in skirts - out of a total of 45-ish dance...

Re: Denim Maxi Skirts

I've got one that I wear in the winter. The great thing is that there's room underneath for a (midi) skirt for extra warmth :D

I take trousers with me as well, just as a backup, but they never get unpacked.

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large

Next week I going to France with my children and not taking shorts or trousers. Eeek! You should be OK. I'm just back from Switzerland via France (on Swiss and French trains), skirted all the way. Wandered around Strasbourg and other places, including a short visit to Italy. Reactions? Just like ho...

Re: Sightings "in the wild"

I was in Wells market place this morning. The wife had just bumped into a mutual friend and they were having a good natter. A guy crossed the road and complimented me on my skirt (knee length A-line denim). I looked down and behold, he too was wearing denim skirt, so I complimented him back. That ma...

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large

Mrs C and I went to Torremolinos (Spain) in early February for a contra dancing in the sun event. Skirted all the way of course: knee length denim skirt on the budget cattle truck flight out and ankle length skirts in the hotel and for dancing. There were two reactions. We walked along the promenade...

Re: When you're asked why do you wear skirts?

I just say that I like wearing skirts and prefer them to trousers. Seems to satisfy the curious.

Bin man wears hi vis kilt

My wife pointed this out this morning. A bin collector was told he could not wear shorts due to risk of injury, so he got around York City Council's dress code by wearing a fluorescent hi-vis kilt. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11014017/Binman-wears-hi-vis-KILT-heat-bosses-banned-wearing-...

Re: Comfort levels

I can't help thinking of all these millions of men cooking in trousers, unaware of this alternative - I wonder if it even crosses their minds that they could dress like this. I used to cook as well until I tried on a sarong in 2002 and saw the light. In my neck of the woods here are still plenty of...
