Re: Perils of skirting
Thanks for your concern, Crfriend, but the one thing we don't have in the UK is poison ivy, thankfully. You have sent me scurrying to the internet to see what we might have in this country which causes rashes. There are a large number of things which irritate, but the only one which is anything like...

Re: Perils of skirting
Back in July I posted on the perils of wearing a skirt or kilt with reference to brambling. That season is well and truly behind us. It has come round to the season of apple picking. No problems there? I've done it for years with no issues, usually wearing a grey utilikilt or my black everyday kilt....

Re: Perils of skirting
brambling, as in picking blackberries from wild blackberry shrubs, and doing ground clearance involving large nettles! Both can be painful.

Re: The Sarong
Four weeks ago shortly after the heatwave in the UK started, I looked out the sarong I purchased from ebay several years ago. It is of the style which is a sewn tube of material. I pack it for use on holiday, but have rarely worn t in this country..... However, for the past 4 weeks it has been my &q...

Re: Where did you first get the idea to wear a skirt?
What memories flood back from over 50 years ago! Aged 15, a stout 15 stone boy in an all-boys school, I was cast as "Glumdalca" in the Story of Tom Thumb by Henry Fielding. Glumdalca was a rather belligerent giantess. I had the size, and I remember vividly our youngish German mistress meas...

Re: Sightings "in the wild"
On UK TV, Channel 5, 8.00 pm Friday 3rd March there was a programme "Carry on Barging"- Episode 4 - not one of the "Carry On films it states at the start. It involved 4 celebrities, Nigel Havers, Simon Cowell, Debbie McGee and Lorraine Chase spent time on two canal barges, meandering ...

The Great British Sewing Bee - Series 3: Episode 4
What a treat! If any of you have access to BBC iplayer then this is a must-see. Not my usual viewing, but here is a competition on dress making. In last night's episode, drawn to my attention by my wifem they had a competition to make kilts - male or female. Some useful ideas - and some pretty awful...

Re: A Lidl help in the UK
Sadly, for you, LGG, Lidl do not do on-line sales at all. It is simply a case of being there, at the store, and buying before they run out. Luckily I have a Lidl as my next-door-neighbour -literally my local corner-shop. I have seen the kilts (from Gold Bros, I think) and they look good. Only 2 tart...

The Archers' Approval
Did anyone else catch the New Year's Day edition of the BBC4 " story of every day folk". If not you can listen here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04xgj8k For those outside of the UK, the Archers is a radio serial which has been running for years, concerning daily life in the ficticious...

Re: Boy in a dress - TV film
A happy new Year to all at Skirtcafe. I've just watched the "Boy in a Dress" for the second time over the Christmas period. I enjoyed it greatly, with some wonderful performances. However, it stirred my memory - I suddenly recalled the FIRST skirt I ever wore - which was hand-made for me b...

Re: Sightings "in the wild"
I'm not sure if this counts as "in the wild" since I don't know a lot about San Jose, California! Channel 5 TV in the UK had a programme on Monday evening (22/09/14) called "Age Gap Love", with a variety of stories of couples with significant age differences. Andrew, from San Jos...

Unexpected public showing!
I recently purchased a new casual kilt from "Best in Scotland" via Ebay (Pictures can be seen on my thread "Early Morning Walk" in the "Personal Stories" part of the site.) It is a really comfortable kilt, designeded as workwear. So it is not surprising that I wore it y...

Friday Afternoon in a kilt
What better to wear as I drove back from the Brighton to my home in Dorset last Friday, than my khaki canvas kilt. It was a hot day and the traffic was very heavy, so I decided to stop at Sainsbury's in Worthing to buy some provisions for the journey. Not a second glance from the majority of those I...

Re: Windows 8 -- Just shoot me now.
Ubuntu Studio - for the arty bits; Ubuntu 12.04 on half a laptop ( it was the only DVD I had in a tricky situation - and Puppy Linux -Slacko- (small, fast and perfectly formed)on both my laptop (other half) and desktop. Twice a year I have to use Windows for online work - never a pleasant experience...
