Re: A personal issue with tights.

I have never worn, and never really felt the need to wear, tights with mine, even in the winter. I find as long as the skirt is long enough, and not made of a very thin material (those made-in-India lunghis probably won't cut it), it'll be warm enough. This is in Alaska, where winter temps can get t...

Re: Sarongs and tights

I have some sarongs that I made of thicker cotton/fleece, and they do great in cold Alaskan winters. In fact, they seem to do quite a bit better than wearing pants. I have never needed to wear tights with them. The thicker ones do have that problem of "sticking", however, I have found that...

Re: Skirt-wearing By Country

Thank you for the responses everybody, they are both interesting and helpful. We don't have anything from the Americas besides the US though... What about Latin America? What is it like there? @hobofat I never thought Japan would be like that, though I suppose it's similar here as well. What about h...

Skirt-wearing By Country

I would like to compile a list, both for education and for practical purposes for anyone here doing travel, on the skirt-wearing attitudes in various countries around the world. If you have any information to add, please do and I will put it onto this post. Here's the list: Australia - generally neu...

Re: For thoose who it concerns ...

To put it bluntly, fear. I can only safely wear traditional skirts (kilts and sarongs in my case). Other skirts in almost all social circles in my area would be an automatic "gay" label. Not that I mind that label, but I mind the hatred that frequently goes along with it here. That said, w...

Re: What is good (and bad) for a man to wear with a skirt

Depends on which skirt I'm wearing. Tops - for my kilt and my plaid skirt, I usually wear a dress shirt, sometimes with a vest and tie. For my sarongs, I'll wear that or a traditional orange shirt from Nepal. Shoes - In the summer, Timberland black shoes. Almost like dress shoes, but less shiny and ...

Re: Problems at home

I'm not sure that I disagree with statistic 2; but that is simply because I have not seen any evidence one way or the other, it certainly flies in the face of intuition. Perhaps Dragearen would like to provide a reference to support that contention? Although point 1 is more in keeping with generall...

Re: Problems at home

Femininity/masculinity are very culturally defined terms anyway, and have very little to do with one's sex. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Some other statistics and such that may be helpful for the conversation at hand are: 1. Almost all "cross-dressers" are heterosexual, married m...

Re: The End is Near?

Remarkably mild... Hm, I wish it was the same for us. Coldest winter in 20 years, the average temp in Anchorage was 2.5F, and we have over 6 feet of snow and may get more. >_< It'll be long skirts for a while longer yet. Still, though, I think I'll be wearing all lengths during the spring and summer...

Re: How did you start wearing skirts?

1) How did you get started wearing skirts or kilts? I'm not entirely sure how I got interested in getting my kilt... I think it was some mixture of urging from a friend of the family and watching Braveheart for the first time. Either way, I looked into it and started getting more and more interested...

Re: Why?

For myself, I do it partially as a statement that I do not conform to the typical highschool standards, and that I am an independent human, and also because I like the comfort and the look. I am somewhat picky in what I wear, for example I don't like wearing anything shorter than maybe 4" above...

Re: A question of sex ID?

As others have said, I don't place a lot of stock in this, but it was fun and my results were interesting. I got a perfect 0 myself. My results were generally feminine-biased, which would make sense, but I did have a few things that were very masculine, such as the angles thing (I got 19 out of 20 o...

Re: Lungi/Dhoti/Sarong (That kind of thing)

Hi -- glad to know you can wear the kilt in such low temperatures. Aactually, I think heat and cold are just a matter of what we are used to, so I might notnecessarily feel as cosy as you do if I came to Alaska. Here the locals are wrapped in coats ans scarves at 15°c, when tourists from the north ...

Re: Lungi/Dhoti/Sarong (That kind of thing)

Scotland is perhaps not quite as cold as Alaska, but a kilt of good wool is definitely a cold-climate garment. Not the easiest to make, unfortunately, though it can well be simplified with just 2 - 3 pleats at the back instead of the innumerable pleats they sew into the traditional military kilt. Y...

Lungi/Dhoti/Sarong (That kind of thing)

Ello all, I don't know if you remember me, but I'm a teen from Alaska and I was toying with an idea. I'm really wanting to get into making my own clothes, specifically traditional clothes of different cultures, and the different MUGs of other cultures are interesting to me, whether that be a kimono,...
