I like mine, but my wife keeps stealing it.

Re: Mountain Hardwear Mountain Kilt

The Elkommando seems to be "sold out, out of stock" also. Too bad. I never met the first version, so I can't compare the two, but I like my second edition. It's great for the Summer when a trad kilt is a bit too heavy.

Re: The Alanville & Duncan Electric Traction Company

Agreed, 1:1 is a great scale but, here in beautiful western Pennsylvania it is becoming all too rare. The local lines are all defunct and the tracks have been pulled. The only good thing is that some of the rights of way have been turned into rail trails, so I get to ride my bicycle though some of t...

Re: The Alanville & Duncan Electric Traction Company

I love n scale. I have a 3x6 layout in the basement that I don't have near enough time to work on. You can pack so much interest (and money) into such a small space.

Re: Mens silk nightshirt

Well, it's coming up Spring, so nightshirts are going to become a rare thing, but I bookmarked the Wintersilks site as a hedge against Christmas presents later in the year.

Re: do you wear tights or not

Hmm, tough question. I'm an avid cyclist so I spend a lot of time in spandex. I have shorts, knickers, and tights, for various weather. I also wear running tights if the weather demands (but I'm not running much these days due to ageing knees). Mostly with kilts I wear either hiking socks or kilt ho...

To be blunt, I just don't like a lot of the styles.

Re: Essay

Interesting discussion. I like the can't vs. won't distinction. I'm very reticent to wear a kilt around town and have, so far, not ventured out in a skirt of any other design. It certainly isn't that I "can't" as I have a job that is protected and no family who might be adversely affected ...

Re: The Bombox Season!

I live in the faculty ghetto of a college town and most of my neighbors are as old or older than me, so I have very few complaints about loud anything. The one exception is that the alley behind my house ends at our property line. In the Spring on a weekend evening many an intoxicated student finds ...

Re: inexpensive kilts

I'll echo the Sportkilt suggestion. I have a Sportkilt and a Stillwater, both are great. The Stillwater is a bit heavier and a bit more traditional, but the fabric in the Sportkilt has a nice feel and the fit is good. The advantage of Sportkilt is that they have a variety of universal tartans and no...

Re: You never know these days

I took up cycling a couple of years ago after my knees wore out from years of running. I dropped about 35 lbs as a result. I could probably qualify for the cat walk on height and bust size (basically none), but the beard would be a drawback and I think 150 lbs is way over the limit for the high fash...

Re: You never know these days

I'm about 6 feet and 150 pounds. Sometimes I can fit into a size 2. I doubt that any clerk would even make the connection. My wife and I even trade things at times (I rather like the shorter length of one of her kilts).

Still, one hopes for a slow change in attitude, it can only improve the world.

Re: How much does your hobby cost you?

Over the years I have indulged in most every hobby that involves an internal combustion engine. Aviation, boating (power and sail), motorcycling, and even rebuilding antique tractors. I don't even want to think about the cost. Currently I own a sailboat, not cheap but split with a partner, and spend...

Re: HOW MANY SKIRTS DO YOU OWN?

I'm a slacker - no pun intended. I currently have 2 kilts and a third on order. No skirts, per se, but I wouldn't be against it if the right thing came along.
