Paywall.
Not a pay wall, I think, but a geo-wall -- I can read it OK where I am.

This must be the Greg James who presents what sounds like a history programme for 11-year-olds on BBC Radio 4, Saturday mornings.

You may be able to delete your messaging app. But alternatively you can block individual senders, which will have fewer side-effects.

Re: Cash or plastic?

"If there is a transactional cost for handling cash", then it stays in local wages, not going to enrich the bankers. That's wishful thinking, I'm afraid. A trader taking cash must count it up laboriously each day, using the procedures outlined by pelmut above, as well as checking the sums...

Re: Subscription services irony

For me, an EV would not be cost effective nor efficient. My car, a 2001 model year Mercury Marquis, built in November of 2000, gets 17-20 MPG on the highway. In town, I average 16-17 MPG. 18 gallon fuel tank. My Suburban, a 1997 model year, built in October 1996, gets 18-21 MPG on the highway and 1...

Re: Cash or plastic?

A fact that card refusniks often overlook is that handling cash involves costs and takes time: it all has to be counted, accounted for and carted round to the bank. A few years ago I was involved in installing the Square system mentioned by Moon, for a club's self-service bar. It's based on a graphi...

The other day MOH and I celebrated our 55th Wedding anniversary, but before that we did all sorts of things together which were the training ground for our eventual long relationship. We clocked up our 52nd this week, though I've taken to kilts and skirts only in the past six or seven years. So lon...

The Times's radio station on Friday ran an interview with Phin Harper, following up that Guardian piece. It's online at

While I disagree with the narrow opinion of men's clothing clothing that Elizabeth Urbanowicz of Foundation Worldview (Christian Bretheren) expresses, she is free to express her opinion. It's interesting, though, to note that she's operating under the masculine version of her surname. Does this tel...

Re: The Gurdian: Fashion designer Thom Browne: ‘Men should be able to wear anything’

Nothing to do with your theme, Coder, but your title will instantly remind British readers of a certain age of times long ago when early editions of The Guardian (then named The Manchester Guardian , and printed only in Manchester) would be hurried off the presses in the small hours of each morning ...

Re: An Oldie

Yes, unfortunately this is a part of my life now. To get things done and help me stay focused, I write down scheduled appointments and a list of things to do in a calendar book at the beginning of each week. The trouble with that method is that it depends on your checking the schedule all the time....

Me too. And doesn't all that seem a long time ago?
