That's true. Cat hair doesn't stick to satin. However, satin catches and snags on everything remotely rough :(

I've come to accept snags as an inescapable part of wearing satin.

Re: Glamour

A little late to this thread, but I for one certainly enjoy my skirts because they are pretty (I prefer the adjective elegant). More specifically, I love long dresses and skirt made of satin fabric. I love how they drape around my legs and swirl around as I walk. I love how the fabric catches light ...

Re: Moving to San Francisco bay area

Having been here for a couple of days, I can see why the traffic is on everyone's hate list. Even at midnight, the highways are full... I'm now looking for a rental flat, and will definitely take into account all the advice here. A safe neighborhood, not just for the sake of skirt/dress wearing, but...

Re: Moving to San Francisco bay area

It used to have at least one man in a skirt, but sadly no more. https://m.legacy.com/obituaries/sfgate/obituary.aspx?n=stuart-gallion&pid=189372841&referrer=0&preview=false This is not surprising. Skirted_in_sf had told us he had cancer and his last post here was a year and a half ago. ...

I guess I used the term "rednecks" too freely here. By that, I include any people who get so offended by things they don't understand (man wearing dress) that they consider it OK to resort to abuses.

Re: Moving to San Francisco bay area

I'm moving from Singapore to the San Francisco bay area in a couple of weeks' time, and would like to seek some advice from the forum members. Here in Singapore, I Iike to take night-time walks around my neighborhood in one of my long satin dresses. I do get quite some confused stares, which I have...

Re: First forays out in public

I could assume that Interac or another major ATM network is available, right? That's how we survived in India. Just took enough rupees on the plane to get us to our hotel, then our driver found working ATMs for us after that. :) It looks like the Singapore dollar is only about 93 cents to the Canad...

Re: First forays out in public

Well, yes, I'd like to visit perhaps Thailand as well. Part of my interest is visiting historic (and otherwise) Buddhist sites. But you'd be surprised how little of a "tourist" I am. I'm more interested in planting myself in one place and just absorbing local life, especially somewhere th...

Re: First forays out in public

That sounds a lot like Canada in some ways. Like many former British colonies we are very good queuers (something the wife and I discovered in India, where we felt right at home whenever in a lineup), and we have an almost embarrassing reputation for politeness. Singapore even seems to be making pr...

Re: First forays out in public

But you have to expect a few puzzled or frowning expressions from time to time. I was definitely expecting these puzzled looks. In fact, I was surprised by how little attention I got from people around. Standing out is normal. Having lived in Europe for a few years, I do have first-hand experience ...

Re: First forays out in public

Took another big step last night. I went into a 24-hour supermarket with quite a few other shoppers inside. Generally, it went pretty well, and I can feel my confidence going up by the day. Interesting point: no one in the shop seemed to pay any attention to the ankle-length dress that I wore (at le...

Re: First forays out in public

Since I took a pretty significant step last night, I decided to go with the flow and achieve the next goal tonight: going into a 24-hour convenience store and buy something. Admittedly I almost backed out when I first approached the store. I had to circle the shop a couple of times before finally en...

Re: First forays out in public

You should be pleased with your progress but you'll know when you have made it when you can go shopping for a dress/skirt whilst wearing a dress/skirt, whether your girlfriend is with you or not, and not feel any embarrassment about it. I'm afraid that I still have a long long way to go before I ca...

Re: First forays out in public

How do those close to you react to your different apparel? At the moment, only my girlfriend knows about my preference for skirts and dresses (I live far from my parents), and she is pretty accepting of this. She even offered to go dress shopping with me, so I wouldn't feel too awkward (though I'm ...
